Based on my experience in loaners I agree, the V6 diesel is the more refined drive compared to the V8. The V8 is just noisy and the marginal additional performance is arguably not worth it. If the V6 had the active ride there is very little to recommend in the V8 diesel. |

Suspect it was considered that the lesser weight over the front axle meant the desired ride/handling could be achieved without it - also quite a heavy system so the headline weight loss would be less without. |

Re performance - the SDV8 is considerably stronger, you can't fake the torque delivery. |

Ive said it before, the 3.0 is far more refined than the TDV8 and i think, if they put the full package on the 3.0 they would not sell (and coin in the premium) on the TDV8 models... |

Land Rover clearly think that there's enough difference between the SDV6 and the SDV8 to offer both in the Sport -I'd say the numbers don't tell the full story, the V8 diesel feels more muscular and doesn't need working as hard.

The v6 is 'adequate' if all you do is potter about.....but the same could be said for the old td6 which the majority of peeps bought too.

Well it won’t be long before the TDV8 does not meet legislation if the motoring magazines are to be believed! |

It's Euro6 compliant now with SCR and start/stop, so safe for a bit (at least 18MY I heard). VAG V8 diesel (Cayenne S Diesel etc.) isn't, and apparently isn't going to be.

The old TD6 was far from adequate! Loving my 405 V6 though. Never drops below 30 MPG, very smooth and certainly quick enough! |

Now I cannot understand how you would consider buying a petrol powered SUV with a Porsche badge over a 5.0 Supercharged Range Rover. |

Having driven both I would not say the RR is any more programmed to drop gears on acceleration than the Porsche is. Both like revs when pressing on. I am a big fan of the Cayenne Turbo I should add, but it is a very different offer to the FFRR. I would compare it with the Sport SVR. |
