New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I also don't have much of badge "adherence/admiration/attachment" whatever word you want to assign to it. My 4.2 was a Ford era FFRR and my 2010 is a TaTa era FFRR. If it was made by a manufacturer like Kia and it was as good as it is now, I would still buy it. Would be a lot cheaper as well I guess (hope).

Anyway, I have a FFRR because I LOVE the design and capabilities. That's what I like about the GT, its design looks awesome and the capabilities are likely to be brilliant as well. I hope it is although it is unlikely I can ever afford one, like my favourite supercar the Murcielago Spyder but hey, one can dream.

I already have two FFRRs in my car history so I can't complain too much Smile Smile Smile

Now if that bloody oil price would pick up again soon then at least I can try to make enough to get my DB9 (V12) and GT-R at some point in the next few years Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Then suggest at work mzplcg (as i guess you work for JLR) they ask all "new car purchasers" weather they would have purchased the vehicle if the brand was changed!

If brands were not to bother any of you and functionality was king, everyone of us would be driving a Dacia! We would all wear “George" or "F&F” cloths and wear a £4.99 disposable digital watch!

Or...... Am i the only member that suffers with "Badge snobbery is akin to stupidity.” Sniggering

Craig, if Dacia made the FFRR then I'd buy it. they don't. Same deal with George clothes, some of which are quite respectable actually, computers, household appliances etc etc. Everything in life really.

Why do I buy HP computers? Warranty. No quibble, no problems, just does what it says on the tin.
Samsung phone. I like the interface, it's easy to use.
Clothes. As long as the basic requirements for temperature, decency and durability have been met they'll do for me.
Watch. Omega Seamaster. Never needs a battery, comfortable to wear, keeps good time and goes well with either a business suit or overalls.

And it's the same with cars. Yes I like the LR brand but not for the green oval. I like what the various land rovers I've owned have done for me over the decades. Function, comfort etc. Like I said above, if Dacia made it I'd still drive one because it meets my requirements. I would categorically NOT buy either a Freelander or Evoque though. I simply don't like them.

The opposite might be some of the Apple fanboys I know. They have to have it just because it has the Apple symbol on it. Never mind if it works well, they actually need it or if it represents value to them for the cost, just because of the symbol. That (to me anyway) is stupidity/vanity etc, or simply more money than sense, I dunno. Sod the requirements they just want it because of a brand.

The thread was about a car, a car I kind of like although i would never buy one. But not because it carries a blue oval, that never figures in the thinking really. Only because I don't want a GT. I have no use for one and it's not a toy I hanker after.

I do like the Ford GT and, if I'm honest, I think a lot of the history has an effect. It's a nice car as a standalone product but the lineage and pedigree adds an extra dimension of desire for me.

But I like the Ford product. I don't see Ford as a prestige brand by any means. They're a car for the working man but they just happen to have some of the most evocative models in history for me. Probably more so than any other manufacturer I can think of. I own a Mustang because I love the looks yet, being honest, a new Camaro looks gorgeous but I go cold when I see the badge. Then again, I really don't like the Camaro model made in the same period as my Mustang, no matter what the badge may be.

Same with LR. I like most of the products (Evoque and Freelander / Sport as key exceptions) and the history. They just happen to be LR but they could be anything and I'd still like them. The British element, I suppose, helps but then again I like a lot of the older Landcruiser models and they're not British. And I love the 70's / 80's Jeep Wagoneer and could easily have one of those over my RR without any regret.

Same for Apple. I like the functionality and the quality. They're a worry-free purchase for me. I know they'll work as soon as they're out of the box and I do like the way my phone, pad and laptop all seamlessly synchronise with each other. I don't buy them for the name but because of the way they work and I've yet to find another manufacturer that does the same with the same total peace of mind.

I don't wear an expensive watch. The one I do wear a lot cost me nothing via airmiles yet it looks and feels very expensive but it isn't. It's proved massively reliable and still looks like new after 4 years. I bought another via eBay, brand new for the cost of a cheap bottle of malt and keep it 'just in case'.

Back to the GT. I'll never be able to afford one but I do like it for a variety of reasons. Looks, Ford and heritage all play their part. If it really was f-ugly, then I'd not like it one bit no matter what the badge or lineage showed. Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.
