Noise at just one get 2000rpm

I suppose it's in the title. I have a new noise at just over 2000 rpm, haven't had a good look yet, but I don't think it is turbo related, not a whistle noise more of a bearing drone.

I had the aux belt changed under warranty along with the idler as it was on the way out, looking at the new idler it is starting to show the same black deposit as it did before, so it looks like here was something else wrong when the changed it as well as the idler...... Possibly one of the other pulleys on the belt is gone.....

There is no noise at tickover tho, it is totally engine speed related, will do it in neutral while stationary, easy to hear when pressing the pedal and listening outside. Sounds like a mid tone whine ish.... Can't rev he engine much to get a better idea at the mo as am on a camp site so will annoy folks (swmbo mainly).

Sounds like its in for another trip to the dealer!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Could it be the alternator on the way out? I had a lower pitched whining which started off as intermittent and then became more frequent
2000rpm it was most noticeable, above that and, for me, engine noise started drowning it out and it got higher in pitch.

If you search through threads here there was a link to a utube video with the sound on. Or if you can get a recording I'm sure I'd recognise it again! Ed

Might be, will let it run and see what happens. 4.4s don't have a history of alternators going like the 3.6 does though. Will keep an eye on it Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

No but I'm guessing the 3.6 didn't have a reputation until some unlucky sods started experiencing them failing... Ed
