I am also a newbie and am looking for better bluetooth. The original unit doesnt support streaming audio, nor does it (as standard) support phone book download. There is a mod for the phone book, but I have not found any info on streaming. I am therefore considering adding a Parrot.

I will update you if I learn anything.

Thanks for your reply.

My results so far:

1) The BT unit cannot be upgraded to streaming audio, but it is possible to upgrade it for automatic phone pairing (standard is that you have to pair and key in the PIN 2121 every time when entering the car) and phone book download/display on dashboard screen. One upgrade site is here and does it for £70: http://www.bluetoothexchange.co.uk/

2) The Parrot units need a special SOT-cable to connect to the RR wiring loom, so that you can stream audio over the car speakers. It also works as a hands-free phone bluetooth connection. However, it's totally separate from the standard car controls/dials, so steering wheel buttons etc. don't work for it.

3) There are Bluetooth/FM adapters that can pair with a phone and then emit an audio/music stream via an FM signal that the radio can receive.

4) Finally, the whole radio unit including display etc. can be replaced by a modern aftermarket model which then does everything possible under the sun. One dealer I approached quoted a minimum of £1500 for a Panasonic touchscreen model with full integration into the RR controls.

I think perhaps the upgrade of the module plus the FM transmitter is the most cost-efficient way to get modern.

Maddirk, have a look at the IID tool (plenty of info on here) can be bought from site sponsor Dan @ Duckworth Land Rover... You can update your own BT module using the IID as well as MANY others...

As far as music streaming, your better off putting in a separate iPod kit (many out there) plenty of info on here about them too

I have come to a similar conclusion, I hadnt considered the FM Modulator, for some reason I feel they may be poor quality although I have no evidence to support this, just a feeling.

I am considering (more seriously) the Parrot option as I have one in one of my other cars (a 67 Merc) and I find that the voice functions work well enough not to worry about loss of steering wheel functionality.

I had looked at the Panasonic option, but drew a similar conclusion, £1,000 is just too much to pay when essentially all you get is streaming and updated apps.

Thanks, Craig, will have a nose around! - All the "Ipod" connect kits I've seen so far are for RRs up to 2005, but I'll check again, thank you. And I have an Android phone anyway.

The FM transmitter reviews on Amazon are not too bad, you might want to have a read? - I would prefer keeping my original RR buttons etc. fully working, just love the car as it is. Probably a bit nerdy..

As Craig says, you can update the bluetooth unit to give you phone and phone book facilities with the GAP tool. It is a straightforward firmware reflash.

I had to do it and after it was done the code only had to be entered once on initial use. Not had to enter it again. John

John, just had a look at the IID Tool, cost is £287.69, with Bluetooth around £455
Not sure it's worth it for just what I want. May consider using Wiggs.

Depends on how much you do yourself. I look to do my own work and it is invaluable. £450 seems high. It is quoted at £398 inclusive on certain sites.

It does also help to cut down on being a guinea pig for the repairers' learning process.  John

John, understood. I cannot do much myself, as I don't have a clue, really, aside from basic servicing. But perhaps once I retire it would be nice to look more into it.

As my CD Changer died i removed it and installed the Trioma Module with Bluetooth Adapter.
I did not install the included microphone so the adapter is streaming only and not for doing calls.
My iPhone connects to the original Land Rover and to the Bluetooth Adapter without any issues.

I can use the steering wheel buttons for changing the tracks of my spotify playlist.
Music quality is outstanding and you can experience the Logic 7 System. Had an FM Transmitter for about 2 years and you can not compare the quality!

Only weak point of the system: if you switch to the next titel you have sometimes no sound, i start the title immediately again by pressing back then everything is fine. I can really life with that because the sound quality is amazing and yeah, its bluetooth streaming in a MY06. And of course you will have aux and usb

Nice! I ordered one at the w/end that connects via fibre optics and meant to be very good, according to technician who appeared to know the cars and specialises in fitting this type of thing.

Hopefully going to sound good as well Glad to learn you got away from the FM modulators, they're absolutely dreadful

I'm sure it would Weegie and it looks great write up. Intend to get someone who knows what they're doing tho. Don't really like working on the car in the street and don't have a garage.

They told me £200 for part (not sure make) and £100 to fit. Will have Bt, hands free for iPhone, and able to stream music and charge (w/ controls functioning via steering wheel). At the moment old Bt (nokia) unit has fibre optics capped so must have packed up. Rest of logic 7 Most system seems good apart from some distortion on a few frequencies sometimes when turned up. Probably someone has over cranked it at some stage

Notice you have the venture cam? Mine had it fitted originally but cam has gone (along w/ remote for FBH). Are they decent resolution - do you recommend?
