Silly to keep going? Advice please.

i don't like getting to FFRR all scratched and damaged.
For off roading adventures, I have a 1997 Discovery (series 1), V8 automatic, with 200,000 miles.
It's a nice car and has a number of mods for off roaring (winch, lift).
Like most cars its age, there is a lot that doesn't work. It has lead a rather hard life. I'm not aware of much corrosion, as car rot isn't generally a problem in this area. Engine in down (I suspect) on power, but it doesn't seem to burn or leak oil (touch wood).
Now, I had an issue with the brakes. My mechanic, who is good with these things just quoted me $1800 + tax for a new set of front brakes (all the bits). That's about half the value of the car and doesn't address any of the other issues it needs.
So, is it worth repairing, or just let it be scrapped for parts?
Im not sure I'd miss the car. A cheap vehicle for hauling messy things is always great. I WOULD miss the off roading.
Thoughts?

See if you can find a second one in better condition and use this one for parts would be my take on it. It is a lot of money to throw at an old car with a long hard life. It would be better spent on something better. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Seems a lot of money for front brakes.

New discs pads, and both calipers can be had here for around £150 GBP. Even if you took shipping costs into account, it's still a huge saving, and would leave justa little in labour for fitting

I've just done my rear pads and discs today for £65 and took me no more than two hours to replace.

Get rid of your mechanic!

Main Agent quoted £800 for front discs/pads/sensors. And that was with a 20% discount! I don't think so.... SDV8 AB MY 2019

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Interested to know about the prices, as many thought they were high. We're talking Canadian dollars here, so divide by two to get £. It needs rotors, callipers, pads, dust shield, flange, and all front wheel bearings. Reasonable, or taking the Censored ?

Again, thanks. We'll see what Monday brings.

Seeing as your in Canada, that price doesn’t seem SOOOOOO high imho... And if you don’t do DIY then you simply have to pay a trusted garage... Neutral
