I recently started getting a small fault with the car. I'm pretty sure it's nout too major, I think I know what it is, just wanted some more opinions.

The symptoms described are the opposite of what a dodgy thermostat normally shows - ie over cooling when moving so hot when stationary and cold on the move. |

Well for me the first sign was it dropping temp when I came off the motorway to a stop (I remember the specific trip)

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Mine occasionally (2 or 3x a day) thinks it is cold just after I pull up, even after a motorway or A-road run. Then when I set off again, the gauge goes back to the middle. The car reached temp fine, and in correct time, all the time. It's never been over halfway, even slightly towards the red. So that's why I don't think the thermostat is to blame. It's gotta be a dodgy sensor somewhere, or loose conn. I just wanted to know if I was correct in thinking there are multiple temp sensors around important bits, and that the temp gauge takes a reading from all of them? Funnily enough, it was 36C yesterday in London. I done about 140 miles during the day, and the temp gauge didn't drop once, even though there was ALOT of traffic on the A13 yesterday evening, about an hour of stop-starting just to move 2 miles.... |
