Mint classic but by far not a bargain for a 4x4 with the steering wheel the wrong side

Classic prices went bananas for a while with even early four-doors commanding decent money, but interest has slowed again. Still, a decent two-door will fetch 20k+ and an early, original numbers, mint condition car going for 50k+.

Not really the place for this question but I am interested to hear why people would pay so much for an old range. I understand classic cars and have enjoyed classic 911's over the years but that's because I've enjoyed driving them on b-roads in fine weather and polishing that comes with ownership. But with a range I can't imagine anyone would prefer driving that to a newer model. Are people buying purely to collect and store in a collection rather than use?

I get the idea of a cheap Landy or rangie for the farm but some of these classics are far from a cheap farm work horse.

Someone please enlighten me or point me to the right thread?

Why buy one? Why not? A 250 GTO wouldn't see which way a Focus ST went on most roads, and it doesn't even have Bluetooth, but that's hardly the point.

I cant answer that direct question, but I have seen some other 'everyday' classic cars rocketing in value. and the key word is 'all original'. look at old early mini's especially coopers. old escorts from 70's again top of range etc. old Cortina's.... -yes special 'premium' cars that we all wanted, like 911's and e types, Jensen interceptors, will always be high money. but look at the prices of old mark 3 Cortina's and you will be astounded. -here, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK-3-FORD-CORTIN...7675.l2557

old VW's mini 'bus' are now too valuable to even have parked in your garden, some well over £60k

I guess its all about supply and demand with the classic 2 door rangie. hell, you would not want to actually use it, if you paid 40k for it. you would only take it to a show and let some weirdy-beardy sad folk point out the 'wrong' parts for that year etc.

Yes - interest rates are low, lots and lots of cash around, new asset class. It will deflate just as surely as it has inflated.

That was cheap for Graeme Hunt.

I went to see the Lincoln Green 2 door that is still pictured on Graham Hunt's website 8 years ago as an upcoming 40'th birthday present for myself and it was £7995.00......

I didn't want to pay that much........... Regret it every day... Regards

My MINT classic LSE softy is worth more today then it was yesterday... And will be worth more tomorrow... UNLIKE my 2012 322 that is worth less today then it was yesterday!

Point 2 is, its actually quite nice to drive, gets far more respect than my newer RR AND!!! When i took it to Eastnor Castle last year for their Discovery Birthday bash, entering their parking area (a wet grass field) i “with a smug smile” drove in around several Newer LR stuff stuck on wet grass and parked...

True, i could put the money in the bank and earn ummmmm nothing!!! Or watch the classic gain value, but more importantly... Enjoy putting 500 miles a year on it

I've always loved the shape of the Classic two-door and took the opportunity to buy an unmolested/unwelded original car a couple of years ago. I justified it to my wife that it was an investment, and to myself that it fulfilled my wish of always owning one. It's a very different drive to my L322 but fun none the less.

I had a classic before the values took a jump up, i bought it for a bit of nostalgia due to my grandad and dad having them when i was growing up, but to be honest if you have a good one they do drive well.

Reference to ad apart from steering wheel on wrong side it seems a bit rich probaby hoping to export it. Also wouldnt be a fan of the chrome wheels.

Think i will always have a soft spot for a classic was offered one recently for £1500 (pretty rotten in terms of sills etc.) and was very tempted. 2010 RR 4.4TdV8 Vogue

A further point, they NEVER go out of fashion either!

There is clearly a following and I guess everyone is different so I can live with that. I get the investment factor. I didn't buy my 911's to invest but it's very reassuring to know they are going up in value every day.
