Afternoon chaps,
Got a decision to make,
The windscreen is goosed. It has 3 cracks in and the heated part only works on 1/4 of the screen.
I've called the insurance and logged a claim, I've stipulated 'OEM glass please'. Auto glass is the insurers choice. This was last week and I'm still waiting for a reply about it. Their answer it, " as you've asked for OEM glass we need to confirm with your insurer they they'll pay for the extra".
In the meantime, I've called national windscreens, who have quoted £350 + vat, but they don't supply new seals or clips / fittings?


What would you do?

Stay away from Autoglass mate, they took 2 attempts to get my screen right, never called me to let me know they brought wrong one, tried to rebook me from 18th June to 9th July, wouldn't come to my city centre address. (that's only half the complaint I have logged with them)

Then after all that, I have them coming out tomorrow under warranty as my auto lights are now stuck on and my rain sensing wipers don't work. They have agreed if their is a fault, car is going to LR to get fixed and they are footing bill as they are totally incompetent. '55 Java Black Vogue

It's unlikely any of them will supply new fittings. But as a bonded screen it doesn't really have any seals as such.

If any of the plastic fittings do break though it's easy enough to replace them yourself at a later date. It's only likely to be a few trim clips.

I saw the watchdog report http://bbc.in/1Fm9NBw it was scarey viewing.
But aren't they all like this? I've read negative reports on AA windscreens, auto windshield and auto glass. Maybe this is a sign of how the government wants things, Payless, do more. The wages are only going to attract youngsters, therefore the experience goes out the window.
If I Could fit the windscreen myself I would.

Old School Windscreens at Longcross near Chobham. Quite a trek, but a small 60 year old family company; not monkeys!

I and my friends have used them many times now. They specialise in classic and top-end cars.

Not for the RR but had an awful experience with AG, ended up without a drivers window for a week as they sent the wrong ones several times and could not understand that my car was from a different decade than the glass they were sending

On another note i used to know some local screen fitters and when they were down my yard we removed the letters Res from the side of their van resulting in Rapid ponse Unit

I've emailed old school windscreens. I'm happy to travel and pay the right money but i do want a proper job with some kind of warranty.
I hear what you're saying zirconblue. But it's a rare thing to use the words range rover and cheap in the same sentence lol.
I don't want wind noise, leaks or bits of the windscreen hanging off. Thats not to muchto ask surely.

Had a new screen fitted in ours last week by Autoglass, cost £75 excess on the insurance, exactly the same screen that was taken out of the car (Pilkington), same code numbers, they did a superb job, fitted brand new A pillar covers and new clips on the scuttle cover. Took two guys about an hour and a half to do, heating elements perfect and rain sensor working better now than before!
Autoglass also given a 3 year warranty against leaks.
Insured through Churchill (ohhhhh yes!)

I had a nasty experience with two non-OE replacement screens earlier this year and some cack-handed fitting to boot.

^ what he said. The cheap Chinese copies are rubbish, really bad. We had 2 fitted to SWMBO's XF and both had optical defects that would distort the view when looking straight ahead. We had to complain to the insurance company twice before they fitted a Pilkington. And every time it is removed & replaced they're butchering your car a bit more. It needs to be right first time.

Can your servicing agent not help? i.e. My customers ask me to sort it for them as they trust me! And so long in the game, you get to know who is good/bad in all area’s
