Having been caught out a couple of times with a depleted battery when leaving my 2006 TD6 parked at the airport, I thought that the answer might be a solar trickle charger placed on the dashboard and connected to a live cigar lighter.

Given that it shouldn't be the case I would say you either have a small drain or a knackered battery. If it were me I would fix the problem, not mask it over. My car was fine at the airport for 3 weeks over Christmas and New Year, started just fine when I got back. Just my 2p. |

I have this theory that if you leave it at the airport with the window open, unlocked, and with the keys in the ignition it will be safer than a locked one.... I mean thieves will think it's a bait car and leave it well alone...

If you're replacing the battery every 2 years then perhaps look at AGM as a solution. I did this on an 07 TDV8 when it was only doing short runs and I was using the FBH. Details in this thread.

Many thanks, and I have found that the socket in the boot of the 56 reg TD6 is permanently live, so problem solved. I have always used Bosch batteries up till now, but I read that AGM are good.
