New windscreen

After waiting over a month for OE glass, getting a call this morning because it had been delivered to the wrong place, so could I wait until this afternoon. They turn up with .... you guessed it : OEM.

Nice one A***G**** Sad

There was no way I could wait again so they are fitting it now (90 minutes and they seem to have removed half the front end!!!). Wish me luck. The more observant of you will realise this is yet another glass replacement on my poor RR Sad Land Rover Addict

A stone chipped my drivers side headlight a couple of months ago. As you can replace the glass on a 2003, I sourced one and fitted it. Here we are, a couple of months down the road and the new one is now chipped !!
The windscreen has had several chips repaired to date which, following my head light luck, makes me reluctant to replace it.

What's wrong with OEM? It will be identical to the LR one - that's what OEM means, the manufacturer who originally supplied to land-rover.

Or do you actually mean a 'pattern part'?

There are some 'genuine' LR windscreens which have the Land Rover emblem lasered off, and overlaid with an opaque black Pilkington logo; even manufacturer markings on any of the hardware will be obliterated. In many cases, these screens have been backed by the OEM due to a quality issue, or stock allocation. Commercial bureaucracy restricts the aftermarket distributors from selling them as OE.

LR stock levels are extremely low/zero. I know because I look after three dealerships - as well as retail customers - and getting hold of windscreens has gone from difficult to impossible.

My windscreen developed a crack a month or so ago. As the car is less than 3 years old, I can specify a LR part. I have been waiting.

I think the downside of a Pilkington screen is that, if there is a problem (say, one of the heating elements goes) then you have to get AG to sort it (they gte their parts). If it is a genuine LR screen (and the car is still under warranty), then it is LR's problem.

I've just been watching "Watch Dog" on the Beeb and Autoglass will never get with in a mile of my vehicle.

Stay away from Autoglass, they took 2 attempts to get my screen right, never called me to let me know they brought wrong one, tried to rebook me from 18th June to 9th July, wouldn't come to my city centre address. (that's only half the complaint I have logged with them)

Then after all that, I have them coming out tomorrow under warranty as my auto lights are now stuck on and my rain sensing wipers don't work. They have agreed if their is a fault, car is going to LR to get fixed and they are footing bill as they are totally incompetent. '55 Java Black Vogue

I had my screen replaced by Autoglass. I went to their workshop. They said that for higher value vehicles (such as RRs) they would recommend that as doing the work at the roadside or client premises increases the risk of problems such as debris or rain blowing in to the fitting area. I was glad that the work was done at their workshop, clearly the best place for it. The screen was the same as supplied by Pilkington to the Solihull factory. I am happy with it. Everything (heating, rain sensing, wipers) works as before and there are no leaks, noises or other problems. The work took slightly longer than I had expected, but I thought it was done well and tidily enough, and better to take longer and get it right. Only Range Rovers since 1988

autoglass now only do mobile stuff, all their depos have been closed ( according to watchdog)

as for staying away from autoglass, this could be difficult if the insurance company tell you to go to them.. ... - .- -.

I recently had a windscreen done by AG on my Audi which has a heat relfective screen, along with sensors etc.

I had to go with AG as per my insurance and it wasn't a good experience, took 5 goes to get right. End result OK, to be fair no mess or damage done but lots of hassle.

You need to be sure they are bringing the correct screen and 2 experience people, then you have a good chance it will be done properly.

Check things carefully before and after they do the work.

Good luck.
