Never again will I try and sell a car privately

Sorry guys, but I'm on for a grump.

As I'm sure many of you will have noticed I have my FFRR up for sale and so far I've had 3 'very interested' people who've made silly offers or went silent.... not that I at all grudge showing people around the car, far from it, but the it amazes me why someone would come and see a car twice drive it, say it's the best thing they've seen by far then offer me £2k under the asking price because they'd prefer a diesel and would require £2k to fit an LPG kit Whistle

I quite like selling them actually, makes a right laugh some of the ways people try to get it cheaper...

All my cars end up at their best when I'm selling them so I stick to the price, you will get there....

When I sold the Merc, the final buyer turned up at the stn as arranged, I drove him 5 miles home, he got out, handed me the cash and drove off...!!!

Good luck mate it's a lovely car.... Thumbs Up Pete

Just been through this myself Big Cry

Why do buyers think you'll take less than a dealer already offered you Shocked

I've always kept my vehicles in pristine condition but they would rather buy a dog from a dealer for £1000's more Rolling Eyes

In the past I've sold a Landcruiser, FL2 and D2 private between 2-3 years old without too much effort but in recent years have had to sell to trade as private buyers are like rocking horse poo Sad

When I sold my RRC last year I had no end of interest (cuz it looked the dogs) and the range of folks who turned up to see it was amazing. I had the usual amount of 'experts' pick flies and make silly offers.

I actually asked one bloke to leave after telling him he needs to raise his budget 5k or drastically reduce his expectations.

As with every time I've sold a car privately the person who buys it looks the least likely to buy it but knows what they want and how much they have to pay. This type of person doesn't normally insult you with a silly offer and is only to willing to appreciate they got in before someone else has.

It will sell. Anyone who knows half what the forum does about FF's will know a good one when they see it.

I am currently selling a P38 on behalf of a friend as he has no tolerance for tyre kickers - and have had a few people call/text/email asking what is the lowest I would take....... Like you are going to tell them!!

Good fun though - I like sifting the time wasters out of the mix and doing the wheeler dealer bit.

Darren

When I sold the land cruiser 80 series, I tried the forum, no takers, private free adds, no takers, and then ebay....never again will I go that route as there are so many time wasters.
Now the best bit was when I finally sold it for what I wanted and the bloke, who I had to pick up from railway station too, then offered 100 quid less than the price bought! Cheek of it but wanted it gone now so took the deal.
Now on my way to pick the kids up from school I got a call from the chap who had just bought the cruiser, 'I'm at the petrol station and the nozzle won't go in the filler hole....is this diesel?' No I replied it's petrol as per the listing and log book says so too!

Some people,...... thick? Laughing If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Have discovered that there is a lot more scope selling to small dealers than trading in.

I know a couple and there is a better amount of banter and a deal can usually be struck at a "fair" price. Granted not Private sale values but usually better than a trade in with a dealer will produce! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I have never had any problems selling, my last to cars sold on gumtree within days of posting the add and didn't spend a penny on advertising. I know this might not make you feel any better but it just takes the right person to call and before you know it its gone Thumbs Up

Only car i had trouble selling was a 3 series and i put it down to the fact it was an unpopular choice of interior and exterior colours took over a year to sell and cost me £120 for 3 goes on Auto Trader this is the reason i would never buy a car with any wacky colours interior or exterior. In the end a boy called from Bradford one Saturday, we spoke briefly about the car and he asked for my post code to check how far away i was from him. I then was woken by my phone at 4am Sunday morning with around 30 missed calls and voicemails. Looked out my window and was 4 guys standing at my gates !!! I went out not best pleased as you can imagine, they had a quick look at the car and then handed over the cash ! Not the most convenient way to sell a car but after the countless time wasters i was glad to see it go ! That was one of the first cars i had ever sold and safe to say if it happened to me again i would tell them where to go !!!

Have you considered putting the car back to stock and then sell facelift parts separately ? Thats if you still have the original parts ? I find people can be put of with modifications and prefer a completely stock example. Just a thought. Hope you manage to move it on soon. Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )
