Wife had it done over twelve years ago. At the time she told me that she could now see me and might not have married me! However, only just now needing glasses for close up work. 2 points, laser surgery can make night driving difficult, I speak from experience, it makes headlamps "starry" and becomes very tiring, worse when it's wet at night too.

Lens replacement seems more of a solution than laser surgery, my mother (who is 73 and wore glasses since she was 4) had lenses replaced and it has been incredible.

So is lens replacement more of a long term solution does anyone know?

I had it done eight years ago when I went from retained to whole time fire service and as above it makes your night vision at best a pain in the arse and at worst you could really screw it up , despite what they said it hurt like hell for a day or two and I miss not being able to see close up , don't get me wrong it's great to see without glasses for the first time since I was ten it's just that all thing being equal i was OK with glasses despite being -3.75 with astigmatisms in both eyes .
Never even heard of lens replacement but it does sound good in that a perfect artificial lens must be better than distorting an imperfect one .
And then there are the well documented risks , rare but sobering to think about .
It's not that expensive but I feel it's a quite big decision to take , good luck making the right one .

Had mine done about 5 years ago. One eye for reading and one for distance. It took a while to get used to at first but once your brain translates what it is seeing then you get the best of both worlds. I've had two normal eye tests since and the optician says Optimax did a great job and I have better than 20/20 vision. So it's a yes from me. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

For your 'problem' I would recommend a pair of bifocal safety glasses. They're cheap, appropriate for the conditions and don't fall off too easily if you buy the right ones.

I had it done on valentines day 2013. Best three grand I ever spent, no regrets whatsoever. Took about 50 seconds per eye. No pain involved, just discomfort and halo/starburst effects when driving at night for about 2-3 weeks afterwards.

Had it done at the Trafford centre, optical express I think. I now get free eye tests for life.

I had mine done about 8years ago. It was great for 5 years but now i wear glasses all the time.
I would speak to an ophthalmologist who has nothing to do with lasers and ask their opinion.

There is a new graded lens replacement available which is the next generation treatment out there. It's very expensive but if you never need to wear glasses ever again 10K is worth it IMO.

had mine done coming up for 5 years ago and best thing I ever did, had glasses since I was 9 and the difference to me has been amazing - no more hassle with trying to wear glasses under ski goggles and out in the kayak or kitesurfing - so much more fun than it ever was with glasses or trying to do without. Contacts just didnt work for me.

Worst side effect for me is I need to wear sunglasses alot more, especially when driving - no big hardship. I was told I will probably need reading glasses at some point as I get older. Reckon the cost has easily been outweighed by the fact that I'm not buying replacement glasses that were constantly getting lost or broken due to outdoor activities.
