Hi, well i must be slowing up in my old age or having a dash crash cam is making me think about speed more. My recently acquired 2004 Vogue TD6 is now getting 30 to 31 mpg on my commute through the villages and on the A140 Norwich road. When I bought the vehicle it had a recorded average of 25 mpg on the computer (which is what my TD6 RRs gave me in 2002 and 2003 when I bought them new).
As soon as I bought the 2004 RR (with 103,000 miles on the clock) I changed the air filter for a Green cotton product and changed the crankcase breather (I dont think the original had been changed) I also fitted the EGR delete valve available everywhere as I had done this same Mod. on my Jag S type 2.7 D and that made 2-3 mpg difference and gave extra go.
The old EGR valve in the Range Rover was restricted by a third by the built up oily carbon on the valve and wall of the tube.
The queen of the drive my 2012 Westminster TDV8 gives me 34 mpg and all the V8 roar I could wish for.
I doubt thats the best available here on the forum but for the TD6, a decent air filter and EGR valve delete should bring improvements and make it a slightly better drive.

I dont get how a V6 pushing this barge around gets such good MPG across the pond. But I am jelly.

They're a straight 6 to be exact.

I always like the mpg postings, maybe I need to measure mine and become paranoid one day - I think NOT!. What I don't like is the extra visits I now have to make to Tesco (yes I know supermarket fuel is another emotive topic that generates paranoia) compared to my old V8 Diesel its a real PITA, so much so I have started asking SWMBO out to fill her up when she visits Tesco, problem solved  Geoff

Yep. It's Premium Recommended. All the rest are Premium Required. I've never tried regular, but mine runs a treat on the midrange fuel.

As for the UK cars getting better fuel economy, remember they are using nice big IMPERIAL gallons in their calculations, not US gallons.

Is it not simply that Petrol Range Rovers require at least 95 RON - in the UK thats called Regular and in the US its called Premium, Regular being about 92 RON.

The octane rating is only part of the story, it might be US spec fuel has a lower calorific value too.

But actually in the UK 95RON is 'Premium Unleaded', have a look at the British Standard EN mark next time you're at a petrol pump - they all say 'Premium' for our 'normal' unleaded - because the British Standard used to have lower grade fuel too, mainly used by fleets. What used to be 3 star petrol. Anything above 95 is Super Unleaded. It's loosely based on the old star ratings for leaded petrol.

Some of the oil companies put their own brand names on fuels so Shell for example use "Fuel Save" or "Shell Regular unleaded" on what is actually officially called "Premium" unleaded and They use the V-power brand on the super unleaded.

The old 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 star rating was much simpler to understand!

Interesting. I did here stories about the old "Rover V8" being a LOT happier on the UK fuel than that found over here.

Yes, it's the Jag powered 4.4 non-SC.

I don't know the octane number, I didn't look. I usually use one of a few independent or second tier filling stations because of location. The car runs very smoothly and seems to have a LOT of power. So much in fact, I rather wonder about the need for a Supercharger.

The mileage is very consistent and can be quite amazing on a long motorway run considering the weight and size of the vehicle.

Don't know what's happened to my MPG, it was 31, had it serviced and it's now doing 34 MPG - incredible ;@) 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone
