Air Suspension problems on MY2011 FFRR bought last week!

Hi everyone,

I joined the forum last week as I have bought a Autobiography Black MY2011 4.4 tdv8.

On the way home it pinged from the independent dealer "Normal Height Only available", and "press OK", and "front vehicle alert not available" and "press ok" pinged up. They deleted when I next started up but pinged up again after a few miles. Since then I have not used it much as have been away but have had time this weekend to go through it in detail. Also I've had four new Pirelli Scorpions fitted whilst away and that is it.

Cycling the air suspension through its modes the car will not go to Off Road height. It states "Car will raise when system has cooled down" but it never gets there. When taken on road the "normal height" message pings up in any event. You can hear the compressor buzzing away in the boot then it cuts off.

The car does not settle overnight so assuming no leaks for now. Sounds to me like a weak compressor on the way out as it is slow to rise from access height. I did have a P28 Vogue SE about ten years ago that did the same thing and it was the compressor.

No ideas at all about the front vehicle alert

Everything else seems OK bar the front brakes which need replacing, contrary to the dealers assurance (no surprise).

Finally the dealer is 250 miles away so don't want to take it back due to time, cost, distance and possible breakdown.

All thoughts, best plans of attack etc gratefully received.

Best wishes

Justin

Presumably you've got a 3 month warranty on the vehicle - don't all dealers have to do this now ??

In which case you need to call him and tell him the problems, unfortunately he might have the "right" to ask you to take to him to be resolved, unless it is a warranty which allows you to choose who it goes to ??

Perhaps best speaking to your local Citizens Advice Bureau before calling him, just so you are clear about your position and don't allow yourself to be "bullied" into doing what's best for him rather than what's best for you and within your legal rights.

Sounds like the compressor. The fact the car stays the same height overnight suggests the airbags are fine.

I had the same message on my previous D3 and it was the compressor. More than likely the piston seal is worn and air is passing by and not going to the bags so the compressor is on for longer then over heats.

I agree with Ian. It sounds like compressor. I had this along with forward alert not available. Had the compressor replaced and everything is ok now. Thumbs Up

Can i suggest starting the car from cold, leave it running for ten minutes (without touching the suspension settings) then press off road height and report back with your findings... Thumbs Up

Apologies for the delay in coming back. Tried the ten minutes as suggested, still would not go to offroad height. Took the car to an independent garage for a full report. It has confirmed that the compressor needs replacing.

The dealer, having said he would pay for it had now reneged saying that as I had four new tyres put on it is my fault. I've had enough of him and will get the work done then sue him in the small claims court for all the points he misrepresented.

All that said the car itself is excellent bar the suspension issue, All the family love it.

One final question, should I get a LR warranty once it is done? It has done 52K miles with full LR history.

Thanks to you all

Ah yes, I'd already thought of you but as you say too far away.

Any one you could recommend over my way, currently been steered towards The Thatched Garage in East Hoathly near Uckfield.

Thank you for all your input to date

There is a cheap fix for this ,it is just the piston ring in the compressor I fixed mine for £20.Google it on ebay 'l322 air compressor piston ring' then look up same fix on 'you tube' where there is a 10 min video to show you how to fix it.You may however have to get it 'reset' with a plug in when you have finished ,see the other forum subject on this 'technical' page!!

Hi there, sorry to raise an old thread but was wondering if this issue was resolved and if so, what the remedy was.

I have a 2010 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE. I have been seeing exactly the same symptoms as above with "normal height only" and "forward alert not available" I can't see for the life of me how the suspension is linked but I'm sure there is method in the madness!

The issue rears its head soon after starting the engine but has been disappearing if I turn off and an again. She only has 68k miles on the clock, had a new viscous fan and alternator last year, new discs and pads all round and four brand new tyres. I'm looking to sell so providing I can get rid of this little gremlin it will make a perfect vehicle for someone. Never had any other niggles with it at all and the first owner literally ticked every single box they could when it was ordered!

Seems the same symptoms as above and with mine. Potentially a new compressor unit needed by the sounds of things. Was this the cure for Silverwebfox?
