But that doesn't explain the big difference in gas mileage. I mean I figured it was expected that I would get around 15 mpg. My fathers 2008 Ford Explorer with a 5.0 V8 gets 15 MPG and the FF is a lot heavier 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

That looks like a 4.2 Supercharged Jag engine. Made by Ford.

MPG is an extremely subjective and often contentious topic. Some folks claim to get x, whereas other claim to get x/2.

The bottom line is, if you can afford to run it, keep filling it up and enjoy the ride! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Wow. I didn't know that. I'm guessing that 4.4 is the old BMW unit. But looking at the picture I don't think it is???

The older models (like early 2000's) I believe were BMW....but 2008 is I believe the jag engine. Ford would be my second guess. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

Well being that my M5 gets 10 MPG I'll take 14 lol. But on the highway its only rated 18MPG...I can get a little more then that on the highway. Most of my commute to work is stopping and going. If I want better MPG I'll hop on the Triumph Speedie....gets around 35-40 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

According to Wikipedia they did, perhaps it was for US Markets only? Micro cat certainly lists a "4.4 AJ Petrol" engine.

Quote:
The Range Rover's exterior was updated for 2006 along with the BMW V8 replaced with a Jaguar unit. The new engine choices were Jaguar's AJ-V8, with 4.4 litre 300 hp (220 kW) or 4.2 litre 400 hp (300 kW) supercharged variants.

The AJ-V8 was also made in a 4.6 litre capacity for Aston Martin apparently.

This might have something to do with it.

Quote:
In the US, octane ratings in unleaded fuels can vary between 85[1] and 87 AKI (91-92 RON) for regular, through 89-90 AKI (94-95 RON) for mid-grade (equivalent to European regular), up to 90-94 AKI (95-99 RON) for premium (European premium).

From wikipedia so may not be accurate, but it looks like the standards for octane rating differ in the US from British Standard. Octane is only half the story, the calorific values may be lower too, which means the engine needs more of it to generate the same power.

It's made in a Ford factory (Bridgend in Wales i think), though it was designed by Jaguar for Jaguars. The only Ford it was used in was the Thunderbird, it's basically a factory within a factory. Saying it's made by Ford is a bit simplistic. On the same basis the Aston Martin V12 engine is made by Ford in Cologne, though again it's built in a separate compound within the Ford factory.

Stan,

I have one too. NAS spec included the 4.4 AJV8 (non Supercharged) from 2006-2009. Only petrol engined FFRR that's not "Premium fuel required." Thumbs Up They're all badged HSE here, but the spec varies between an UK Vogue and Vogue SE. Actually, rather more common than the premium SC models.
