Towbar/Trailer cameras

I was thinking while towing my enclosed trailer that a pair of cameras would make like much easier. My idea is to have one with the tow bar in view to allow a fair change of reversing down on the trailer in one hit and then one on the end of the trailer to help with reversing or indeed people sat in the blind spot.

There are a number of 3rd part kits about for wireless cameras/display and I could do something like that but ideally I'd like it integrated into my 2011 satnav/display. The Venturecam system would have been the answer but mine is not fitted with it.

Any ideas or thoughts on how to do this? 2011 4.4 TDv8 Vogue SE

Not sure about the interrogation bit but for hooking up I regularly use FaceTime on mine and SWMBO iPhones. The good lady points her phone at the tow ball and I see the picture on my phone. Thumbs Up . 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Thanks for that, as I'm not an Apple person that isn't going to work. I was hoping for a wireless camera solution. 2011 4.4 TDv8 Vogue SE

Depends how handy you are.....

There are wireless transmitter / receivers available or you can run an additional cable so it might be possible

Does your car have rear seat entertainment - or the aux input on the back of the arm rest ?

I did something similar with an older car.....

I just re-read your question - easiest way is to get another reversing camera and mount it in the tow bar armature. Then a switch somewhere to flip from your factory reversing camera to the new one.

I've done this too Cool

I used the cable routing for the towbar electrics into the spare wheel well and up into the side panel fuse area. then tapped into the reverse camera electrics - there are sone instructions somewhere for changing the rear washer - that tells you the easiest way to get to the camera wiring.

That's because when reversing it will always flip to the reverse camera.

For on the go, you need a separate camera, then enable the TV using the hidden menu Wink so you need a way of getting the input - if you have RSE it's fairly straight forward

Alistair, instructions please. With photos!! Thumbs Up This is exactly what I want to do to get round the fact that Land Rover managed (despite huge R&D budgets) to fit a reversing camera which can't see the towball Banging Head

I didn't take any photos & the car has now gone - sorry Embarassed

The camera was a a cheap NTSC one - plenty on ebay. I cable tied it to the tow bar armature - that seemed to work & I never got round to mounting it properly.

The cables I fed following the tow bar electrics into the spare wheel area in the boot, then across into the side compartment in the boot - can't remember which side I went

There are instructions on how to get to the camera here you need to tap into both the power & video.

What I did was ran a switch up to the dashboard to flip the power from one to the other - then combined the video outputs. That required a 3 core cable - I connected the -ve all together - the supply +ve to a switch that sent it to one of the cameras.

I hope that makes some sort of sense ......

The problem is fixed in the L405 - I can now see my tow ball Very Happy

Ifor Williams do these.

I don;t see why you couldn't just fit the screen with a suction mount when you're towing.

Any help?

This is what I did as a dash cam but putting a camera near the tow ball will be the same principle on a switch if not wanting the reverse switching it on.

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic27439....ash+camera If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!
