Rear ABS sensor seized after jacking up car?..

Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice please (apologies for the long post), I changed the rear discs and pads on my 07 vogue last weekend as they where well and truly Censored , in doing so I ended up with a whole world of problems (Hdc fault, suspension lowered, Park brake fault, abs light came on), I know I jacked up the car correctly as I've done so in the past several times with no issues, Unfortunately though as I had the hazards on for so long the battery died, which wasn't a problem so I thought as I had a brand new one ready and waiting to go on anyway, well it was when I hooked up the new battery and turned the car on initially I got all the faults up Sad

anyway to cut a long story short I ended up taking the car to an independent guy who has told me that I must of damaged the ABS sensor wire and as the sensor was seized in the hub he had to drill it out, he then said about having to repair where the sensor wire goes into the wiring Loom otherwise it would of cost thousands to replace the Loom!!...

Now I don't know for certain but I think he is taking me for a mug and talking a load of bull??!!... as far as I can tell by my "extensive" YouTube skills Smile the suspension can be reset in a matter of minutes, along with the other error codes, and the abs sensor just plugs in to a socket like the pad sensors do?

So as you can imagine, I'm finding it a little hard to understand why it took three days, Yes that's correct I did say "Three days" in the garage to fix!

Well I'm due to go and see him in the next couple of days and would really love some feedback from the forum before doing so,  any comments are appreciated guys...

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

The ABS sensor is known to seize in its mounting, and can be a pig to remove and replace. Search the forum for others who have had similar issues. IIRC correctly there is a replacement cable for the ABS sensor, depending on where it is broken.

Don't know about the three days, perhaps check the job sheets and hours allocated to your car.

"All" the faults you mention are a part of the chain of ECU checks, one, especially the ABS function, can get all the rest going. A flat or replacement battery will also cause a lot of lights on the dash and suspension inactive, usually solved by doing a full lock left then full lock right on the steering wheel.

Not sure why you needed to have the hazards running in order to jack the car up? (was true of P38A....)

Others may come with additional/improved information Smile .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

If the cars been driven to the garage and the dash lights have still not gone off by themselves then you have a hard fault issue... The ABS sensors are always seized as they are glue’d into the hubs during production Rolling Eyes Cant remember the last time i had to change one on a 322 if ever!!!

I don't think there was a hardware fault with the suspension,
as otherwise he would of charged me for fixing it!..
its just the whole having the car for three days (just to drill out a sensor) that I'm having trouble getting my head around?!

I've not removed on on an L322, but they can be absolute pigs to get out on most cars. Even if they're not glued in they're usually put in dry (ie without copper grease) so they rust in there. Getting a drill on them is often a pig as you have to dismantle half the suspension just to get at it, then you find most of the fixings for that are seized too.
