Just wondering if anyone has experience with roof rack foot fittings and any known alternatives.
The threaded inserts in the roof structure, under the removable trim caps in the gutter rails, appear to resemble a Ford Mondeo's. I'm wondering if anyone has successfully used these with the Thule foot packs (Thule 753 and Thule 3069), which is the same set up as the older Mondeo. If so, I recon it would be a good alternative if the roof bars aren't being used for their full load capacity.

If you happen to have an old Mondeo roof bar kit and it fits then i don't see why you can't use it. I don't really see why you'd specifically buy one though.

Thule make most of the roof carrying kit for Land-Rover anyway. Bike carriers, roof boxes, ski racks etc.

I'm looking to either use my Thule bike racks from when I had a mondeo (which I no longer have, nor the roof rack/foot packs) or flog what I have and get a flange type tow bar mounted one. I don't like the foot pack that Thule provide for the L322, which adopt the side clamp etc and wondering why they didn't use the existing thread inserts in the roof (like the mondeo).
I've just discovered Mont Blanc appear to use the roof thread inserts for their foot packs and Thule use them on the RRS. Seems like an oversight on Thules part. I want to keep the bike racks and prefer Thule for compatibility. I'm going to call them anyway and see what they suggest.

Ahh ok, that makes more sense now.

Best thing to do would be to order a mondeo kit online, then try it, if it doesn't fit you can send it back as a change of mind return - Distance selling regulations are great.

The actual rails are pretty much standard dimensions, between the brands so i doubt you'd have much problem fitting a Thule bike rack on to Mont Blanc bars.

I'm becoming a bit evangelical about this but for roof racks Rhino Rack make the best quality and most versatile system .

Rhino don't list a kit for the L322 or the dimensions of where to fit things so it was a bit time-consuming with the tape measure.

I picked up a secondhand platform from the AULRO Markets last week.

So what is needed?

Pioneer platform I'm using a 42102B Pioneer Platform - #42102B | Rhino-Rack. Size 1928 x 1236. My thanks to Lucas (irondoc) for putting this in the AULRO Markets.

3 RLCP legs and feet for the L322. The legs are all the same as are the front and rear feet. The middle feet are shorter. The feet (pads) are part nos. M166, M167, and M168 (two of each required).

Because of the taper in the roof line, the leg spacing is wider at the front so one needs some leg height spacers to clear the bolts in the platform

(I only bought 2 packs as I had some other Rhino leg spacers.

6 off 6mm x 40mm SS bolts to replace the 30mm bolts that were with the RLCP legs.

I had to drill new holes for the crossbars to match the fore-aft hole spacing of the L322, i.e., 750mm front to middle, 850mm middle to rear.

I fitted the RLCP legs with the spacers and set the approximately the right width apart but left them slightly loose on the crossbars

My neighbour and I lifted it on and dropped it on the feet. I was pretty much spot on. It only need a little jiggling to sit it correctly. Getting the screws catch and screw in was a bitch, though.

These pics will do for now, I might take some better ones tomorrow.

Spacers. Note that one pair has to have the end opened up to clear a bolt holding the crossbar.

You only need the legs and feet, not the bars.

The legs attach to the cross bars on the rack which are an aluminium version of Unistrut.

I fitted a Fiamma Caravanstore awning that my son had bought and LPG bottle carrier yesterday. I made my own mounting plates rather than buy the overpriced Rhino stuff. Ron B. VK2OTC

i have the thule towbar one on mine and perfect.10 seconds to fit and chuck it in the boot when im riding

You should consider a separate number plate on the rear screen.

Never had an issue in a year even with traffic plod sat behind me.more interested in the bike than the car lol
also extra number plate in rear window has to be lit to be legal and sod up trim etc to put a light there

Are you sure they were traffic & not local police ?

Up to £1000 fine for deliberately obscuring the plate....

yes traffic,i live 5 minutes from the main traffic section in my city.they have more important things to do around here than checking on bike racks.plus the angle of the pic makes it look worse than it is.you can actually see the plate ok straight on and even the lights.
