I know much has been said about choice of front pads but just to add my two pennies, After getting a quote of nearly £400 from my local main stealer, I went for Pagid for my 4.4TDV8 with brembo's. £90.

I believe the name is just a marketing licence for Eurocarparts these days but I am very impressed with the performance of the pads. (no i don't work for them ) They seem to bite a little more aggressively as they heat up and more progressive with increasing foot pressure.

Oh and just to add what others have written about the retaining pins....they are the spawn of satan. "tap them out" they say... ..lololol...more like break/bend/ blunt any kind of drift punch you fashion or use (including an expensive facom one) and they still didn't budge. Had to get an angle grinder and blow torch in the end . ( Replacement retaining pins / "fitting kit" from LR - £100 !!!!! ) Outright robbery.

I suppose that's why the dealer wants so much... they know what their like..

At least you got it done for half price...  Pete

But ECP are obviously their sole UK distributor for LCV/automotive brakes.

Looking at their website they do brake linings for trains, ECP don't do those, saying that i've not tried, I might pop in and ask how much a set of shoes are for a Brush Class 92.

If I may be so bold as to offer a tip for the pins.

Find a nail which is the correct diameter - only just less than the pins.

Cut a section out of the nail which is only 10 to 15mm longer than the distance between the end of the pin and the outside edge of the caliper. This keeps the 'punch' as short as possible but still gives clearance to protect the calliper body.

Hold the section of nail vey tightly in a good set of vice / mole grips and position one end of it against the end of the pin. Then, using a large hammer (even a lump hammer) give the pin one very good thump.



The first one of mine I did was a nightmare using decent punches but once I adopted the above the remaining three came out no problem at all. Having said that - I guess I could have just been lucky!!

I bought Pagid pads for mine in a hurry just before packing off to Oz and thought I might regret it compared to genuine but no I am delighted with the pads , fantastic feel through the pedal and tremendous bite . Less choice here though so back to Brembo next time , Cherching  2008 MY Supercharged

WD 40. Have a brew then welly the hell out of them. I ended up with a bit of hammer rash but the bu**ers didn't defeat me! Previous cars:

wd40 / penetrating oils / custom drifts / nails/ sacrificed screwdrivers / heat / cups of tea/ big big lump hammers / scuffed bleeding knuckles / smashed fingers / deep pain....oh the pain.

yep tried it all. Got there in the end but safe to say never come across retaining pins like that in my life and hopefully never will again.

New pins went in with lots of copper slip over the interference clip - hopefully make things easier next time for me or who ever owns the car.

I had this when I did my previous one - 2010 S/C. What worked for me was to soak the pins in plus-gas, take it for a spirited drive to get the brakes good and hot, get the wheel off as quickly as possible and then spray the pins with aerosol freezing spray. They came out *relatively* easily then. But you do only get one go at it really, you need to be quick.

When re-assembling I cleaned everything with wire brushes and used copper grease to try and make it easier next time.

Not the best design though.

Used pagid on my last car and found both the discs and pads to be very good both in performance and lifespan. Only downside was they seem to make more brake dust.
