Broken driver's seat valance trim

It was bound to happen, and yesterday was the day that the driver’s side seat valance trim broke off.

It was a bit shaky for a long time (probably 5 years) but never it always popped right back in, but not yesterday. It didn’t want to go back in.

So I took it off and will see if I can repair it, Gbp120,- for a replacement is a bit steep

I glued the trips back on; the one thing left to do is to fix the hole where the screw goes

If somebody has a driver’s side seat valance spare and willing to sell, than PM me (needs to be the sand color one / parchment – year 2002)

Yes I had to replace mine a few months back, too few tabs left on it to glue! Had to get a new one, island4x4 were a little cheaper than the dealer. Good luck!

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. It started creaking when the screw hole bit bust. Some tabs broke when removing it.

This is where side steps really help though, as it doesn't get clobbered getting in and out.

Someone on here has had theirs covered in leather, so covered up cracks etc. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Can anyone describe exactly how these trims come off, preferably without breaking anything.
One of mine needs a bit of care but I don't want to make it worse removing it.

Screw at the back, overcatch arrangement at the front, then pull it off towards the door, most of the catches will have broken off though... then unclip the switch pack and lumbar button... Pete

Thanks Pete Thumbs Up
Might just have a go at removing it with a view to covering it.

It's fixed to flimsy plastic bits on the seat though... would need a redesign and better mounting... Pete

The clips got fixed with contact adhesive the day before, however the fixing point at the rear, of the valance is the tricky part. I think that most people have an issue with this.

As you can see a lot of the material got broken off. So there is not much material to repair. Whilst working on this I found on the worktop a 5P coin; although to big with a bit of grinding on the grinding wheel it got a perfect round shape to fit in the hole.

Together with liquid steel this forms a perfect bonding and strong enough to make a new fixing

Last night I got the drill out and made a new hole through the 5p – hard material, and filed the back off, to a good flat surface

With this now fixed it was double the thickness, so the original bolt will no longer fit. A rummage through my screw and bolt pot and a new bolt was found. Ok not a torx screw, but thread is more important

Then a bit of fiddling to get it back on again. I found taking the seatbelt off made it a lot easier.

Doing this on a live car is stress. Working against the drain of the battery

Now this is out of the way, I can concentrate again on building my bike and tool shed

Thanks

May be a much easier job for removal and refitting by removing the seat from the car, only five bolts (inc. seatlbelt) and disconnect the power seat connector (maybe good to disconnect battery also). Then you can really see what is going on. .
