I do a little bit of road cycling when I can get out. I've got an iPhone 4s and have used a couple of distance apps, but what do people tend to use these days, ie which actual app is preferred, the one I can't think of right now, uses all the battery up in about an hour and half. Unless I run it black screen ie refer to it when lost etc.
I have a work sim in my phone which does not have data so I rely on the location sensor in maps etc.
I don't want to buy a bike computer, as I think the phone is more than capable. I just want to use the maps for navigating, and speed and time etc. maybe a calorie counter too.
There's no excuses now the weather has broken through!

Big day for me on Sunday as I'm planning on doing this. The weather's looking rather grim so I'll see how it pans out. Winter clothing and footwear will be the order of the day

I was booked in for it last year when the weather was perfect but having broken my back 3 weeks before it was being run I had to cancel out.

Velominati Rule #12

The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner

I love this and would like to add a decider equation , so if

B is more than W, then apply N+1

if B is less than W then apply S-1

the value of B is love for your bike and the value of W is love for your wife .

102.6 miles with 9500 feet of climbing today, a day from hell. Headwinds that reduced me to 2.8mph at times, crosswinds that blew me across the white line, sleet, snow and lots of rain thrown in for good measure. I'm sure I read that cycling was fun and good for me

Mate and myself on the final climb of the route, 101 miles done and 1 more mile of climbing to go.

The pain on his face says it all, then he saw the camera and decided to raise a smile, whilst all I could do was hold onto his back wheel and hope the hill levelled out soon

Love the guy who took this picture, he makes me look like I'm going fast Laughing Laughing Laughing

My latest project

This came about after I upgraded the groupset on my Look to Ultegra leaving me with a 105 groupset sitting in the garage. The plan was to buy an old frame and fling some of my bits onto it, so I looked at winter frames from the usual sources but nothing took my fancy, then I was offered the Dedacciai for a silly price and with a bit of haggling I bought it at an even sillier price that I would have been stupid to refuse. The only parts I've bought for this build was a seatpost, I've plenty of 27.2mm posts but no 31.6mm so I had to splash out on that and also a front derailleur clamp plus £20 for my LBS to face the BB shell and chop the steerer tube, everything else came out of my ever growing parts bin

Weight isn't bad considering it's a parts build, I guess I could get sub 7 kilos if I smashed some cash, but then I would still have all these parts left and the circle would begin again

Just need to take it for a test ride, then chop the cables and wrap the bars
