Genuine JLR Warranty advice please...

My mates 2007 TDV8 is just comming up to the end of an extended warranty that was taken out by the previous owner, there are now two options for extending it instead of the one option that was available when the previous owner took it out.

Option 1

£3000 individual claim limit
Aggregate cost of FF limit
No consequential cover

Price £850

Option 2

Unlimited individual claim
Aggregate cost of FF limit
Consequential cover

Price £1450

In the last six weeks his FF has been at it's second home a lot and has had a bonnet cable, a drive shaft, a front prop shaft, a parking sensor, a suspension sensor, a suspension compressor & a rear brake pipe rebuild.........

He's more than happy with the service from them, and their latte's are nice so he's happy to have a main dealer one..

Taking out a new one is a no brainer, just which one?

Is the consequential cover worth it? I can't find much in the way of details about what is considered consequential by JLR...

Thought's please chaps.... Pete

About to buy one we are so I'd like to find out the consequential terms and what they mean exactly.

As for price do they include the roadside assistance with that and is it european?

Consequential loss as an example could be if a wheel bearing went south and made a mess of the hub, brakes and so on. They'd cover the bearing but not all the consequential damage. Brakes are service items and thus not covered anyway.

I have a slightly biased view having just come out of a nightmare car but I always now insist on the best. I look my mate in the eye (Dealer Principal) and say, "So if I take this out it's all then your problem, right?" Once I have the affirmative I pay up and look cheerful. Simples. And thus far (touch wood) he's never asked me for a penny outside regular service costs which I also get a mates rates.

Bear in mind though these cars are more than capable of bankrupting a bloke who relies heavily on garages and warranty companies well know this. £1400 quid is about right for that age of car TBH. It's also about what the main dealers have to pay for this LR Approved Used 2 year warranty at trade price. All those cars are (supposedly) subject to far more stringent pre-cover checks.

Ours has needed thousands upon thousands of pounds spent on it during the last 2 years.

Buy the best cover you can get for the reasons mzp gives.

If the cover is being bought anyway, then £600 or so is actually a nominal amount for the level/ extent of cover offered by the more expensive 'approved' cover.

The question is whether peace of mind is actually arrived at knowing the potential lottery as to what MD technicians work on the car?

Just to get an answer on your consequential example.

If the bearing went and then caused the hub and brakes to get damaged would they repair the lot or would we need to pay for the brakes to be repaired?

I understand normal wear and tear so worn pads/ discs from normal use would be a repaired at a service at our cost.

Where do we go for warranty on our old 'uns and high milers then or is the 12 years / 120,000 miles universal?

(sorry a bit off topic...) .

Joe

Mark (mjdronfield) has had his 2003 for several years, it's covered by

http://www.autoprotect.co.uk/?gclid=CNb8gtfx48UCFWXLtAodHz4ArA

He recons they are very good....

Having a look at their website they seem to deal with traders but worth a phone call....

As an aside my mate is rather upset, he bought the top extended warranty and his FF has been faultless since...!!! Pete

I am on my third year of full unlimited cover, so far it covered a new fuel tank sender and the hand brake failed an MOT which I also had cover for so they fitted new discs and shoes. It is not cheap but its peace of mind while I get to spend some years with it and see whats what. If you can afford the unlimited cover get it, yes you could put the money to one side but 1400 quid wont pay for a gearbox or engine or an engine..... hell a turbo is 8 hours labour alone and there are two!

Old thread but thought I would add my 5 pence worth. Just coming to the end of my extended warranty on a 2011 plate and the renewal is an extra £355 per year making it now £1455 without assistance. Seems a big hike on a 6 year old car that has never had a claim. I will take it out for all of the reasons given above but if id saved the money i would have the best part of 5k in the bank Evil or Very Mad
