Help with Fault Codes

Hi all,

Been a while since I was on the forum due to travels. I've recently plugged the IIDTool into the FFRR and got the following fault codes. Sent them earlier to Patrick who very helpfully (and quickly - thanks for that!) pointed out that most of them are just minor glitches and not anything to worry about. The one that does worry me and has come up twice now in the last 2 weeks is the PCM / P040D which Patrick mentioned relates to EGR. I'm not handy with any sort of tools so would appreciate if any of you more knowledgable lot can shed more light on any of these error codes and any thing I can check for to try and solve them. Thanks in advance.

AAM-Audio Amplifier

-B1A02-13 (2F) Speaker 2 circuit - General electrical failure - circuit open
-B1A01-13 (2F) Speaker 1 circuit - General electrical failure - circuit open

DDM-Driver Door

- B1108-15 (2C) Driver's door central locking motor - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open

IPC-Instrument Pack

- U0128-00 (2E) Lost communication with parking brake control module

PCM-Engine TDV8

- P040D-00 (28 ) Unknown (From Patrick = Exhaust gas recirculation control circuit B range/performance)

PDM-Passenger Door

- B1109-15 (28 ) Passenger's door central locking motor - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open

Mine has always had similar audio faults and some IPC faults.

I clear them and they come back but they don't cause any specific change to the car.

Have you had the battery out or changed it recently? Maybe the door locks and parking are related to that.

You can view the EGR opening in Live Data, Engine just to make sure they are moving similarly. When you run engine off they should go thru there full range of motion a few times. Easier seen on the graph function.

Hi Shalz, seeing as the diesel in Kenya is filthy, using a good diesel treatment like Millers will help keep the EGRs gunk free and the DPF cleaner for longer. Wish LR made a 3rd world spec without all the delicate emissions stuff.

Speaking from experience with a tdv8 RRS.

Thanks Singh! Are you in Kenya at the moment?

Looked for Millers in all the usual places - do you know a place that does it otherwise may have to Kesom it from UK?

I think RMA here do get tropicalised landies and they come without EGRs and DPF MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Hi Shalz, so... All your fault codes as Patrick said are “normal” and are found on most i see Thumbs Up

The P040D-00 (28 ) Unknown fault...

I had this come up on mine and it was the temp probe in the NS manifold P040D-00 (2F) Unknown. Linked to the EGR (i think) it made the car stink whilst engine was warming up and poor fuel consumption...

I had mine replaced by a MD as they only charge 0.7hrs and it takes 3 to 4 hours usually Shocked Rolling Eyes

Part was around £40

Go to a MD if you can Shalz as stated above, a MD can only charge what JLR set as the job time whereas a specialist may deem there time 100% chargeable sir... Mine took 3 or 4hrs at MD's ...

It is a horrid job to do though, so maybe expect a little bit of resistance! Whistle

As a retail customer, a main dealer can charge whatever they want. Book times are for Warranty purposes...

I think the hourly rates are capped by JLR, but the number of those hours to do the job is what ever it takes to do the job.

I think some dealers will at their discretion under charge to keep the customer happy, because they know full well you'll go to another dealer or an independent if they charge too much. Just like some of them run special offers on servicing and MOT's and others don't.

I think the only time JLR would get involved is if they had a direct complaint from a customer about a dealer, charging 8 hours labour for a job that in the book should take 2 hours for example, they might ask the dealer to justify it. JLR always send out those satisfaction surveys every time your car goes through one of their franchised workshops, too many bad ones of those and their dealership might become and ex-dealership. The dealers know this, so they tend to be mindful of them and sometimes undercharge for their time to get good marks - because lets face it their hourly rates are pretty generous, so it's not as if they're losing money on it.

Every job has a book time!!! Ring your MD and ask them Rolling Eyes I use our local MD to change certain things on customer cars as the book time & their use of “special tools” favours me and my customers.

For instance, i have a mate with a D3 2.7 with failed glow plugs! I suggested he rang the MD as the book time is (from memory) 1.7hrs chargeable so, thats all he was charged when collecting the car!

Mickey! To accuse me of giving out false information means you are accusing me of "knowingly doing something” That sir, i take great offence too!!! I suggest you stop “trolling” my threads desperately looking to dis-credit anything i post! It only serves to harm the forum and make you look silly!
