How hard is it to do? I'm pretty certain that my windows have been tinted beyond factory spec, and its a bit too dark for my liking.

I don't think the fronts are illegal and they are visibly lighter than the rear, but I'm not a drug dealer or a celebrity, and one of the attractions of a car with lots of glass area is that it should be nice and bright!

Is this a DIY job or a whole world of pain and suffering?

It can be very tricky I've heard of some tinting company's charge more to remove old tint than to apply it ! I read online that you can use a household steamer to remove it. Maybe worth investigating further. It looks a right to remove razor blade or similar  SDV8 AB MY 2019

You just need to get a corner free by the use of a craft blade and usually you can just pull it slowly off.
You will be left with a glue residue on the glass which you can remove with hot water.
Bit of a messy job but not difficult.

Hair dryer, simples and wont leave a sticky residue too, also do on a warm day to help and go slowly while pulling the tint off while heating the tint, easy 10/15 min job if do slowly....or if you rush and leave the glue on the glass will take 20/30 min to clean...or longer  If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Edd China removed the window tints off the Desoto car he was working on on last Monday's Wheeler Dealers. Watch the episode and it'll show you the tips on how best to remove the tints.

Heat gun / hairdryer and craft blade is all you'll need.... and some patience.

Front windows done last night. I was too impatient with the drivers side, and pulled the film too quickly, resulting in lots of sticky residue. After trying several cleaning products, I discovered that petrol wiped on with a rag would soften it, and then i could rub it off with a clean rag.

The passenger side i took more slowly, more heat (Had to wear gloves to protect my fingers!), and it came off cleanly with only a few marks, which again were removed with petrol and a rag.

The environment inside is much improved. I will wait and see if I can leave the rear, or will have to do more.

Friend of mine had an Audi Q7 which had dark tints on the rear and rear side windows. It was parked in a secure car park in Manchester last year while they went Christmas shopping. When he returned his rear side and tailgate windows had been smashed. When the police turned up they said it was because of the tints, the yobbos think that there is something valuable in the car because it's hidden, and just put the windows though on the off chance!

Just to close this down, I'm going to leave the rears for now. I don't really notice them when driving, except at low light when the extra darnkess in the rear view mirror is slightly oidd, but once properly dark its not a problem.

I'm certainly not going to risk peeling off my heated rear window though!

Good point about the heated rear screen!

It's probably not worth bothering with the side boot windows either, as they have your TV and radio aerials on them.
