2003 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Java Black
2011 Vogue rear tinted windows change colour in sunlight

Hello, I am a new proud owner of a 2011 Vogue SE, having previously owned a 2003 Autobiog.

I've only had it 5 days and I've noticed that when the car sits in direct sunlight, the rear passenger windows (not the rear side boot windows) go from tinted black (factory fitted from new) to a dull grey, almost slightly foggy looking. I obviously didn't notice this when buying and two LR dealers I've rung have no idea what I am talking about.

When the RR is moved into the shade or out of the sun etc, they turn back to black. You might think that they are polarised or something, but if two dealers haven't heard, it cannot be an optional extra.

Obviously this is merely a cosmetic issue, but I just wondered if anyone else knows about this in more detail.
Cheers

Kenya 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black

Hi,

I've got the same on my car. Didn't notice it when I bought it, and only saw it a year later when I put tints on the front windows and saw a difference with the rear ones looking smoky grey as you have mentioned. I recall there's a thread somewhere on this forum with someone else having the same problem and the dealer mentioning there was a recall or TSB on it and fixing it under warranty, but cannot find it.

I've imported my car to Kenya so just living with it for now as locally they have no idea what I'm trying to tell them. Hope yours gets sorted. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Thank you, interesting what you say! I cant find any other threads on this, apart from a chap in the USA but it doesn't really reach a conclusion. Will wait to see what others are familiar with this too. If the sun comes out, I will post a photo.

It's the same on all 2011+MY. I put it down to the fact the passenger windows glass was of a different make up compared to the rear and end glass.

I was not happy when I spotted it the first time on getting the car home! Another lack of attention to design detail by JLR. Current MY2020

Thanks again for your comments, the windows were replaced under warranty for one owner on here somewhere, but not much was said.

I see you now own a Cayenne and want the L405 next....are you unhappy with the Cayenne. I've the 4.4 TDV8 and it is awesome....but the 405 will be next for me too.

FYI it only happens on 11my+ cars because that is when the rear drop glass also became double glazed Rolling Eyes

I’ve never seen a post 2011 car with non affected windows! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

JLR won’t change mine because I’m the second owner (and the first never noticed in the first 3 yrs) even though i kicked up a fuss... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

You're absolutely right. JLR are aware of it, so they should replace under warranty. Quite how this can go unnoticed for 3-4 years day I don't know!!

There's a TSB (LTB00398v3) on this. It is a known issue where the incorrect laminate was used and causes discolouration.

My 11.5MY L322 had both rear window door sets replaced because of this under warranty.

I saw the same issue on a L405 AB last week, which was PX for a Panamera. Shame JLR continue to build with known faults. Current MY2020

The Cayenne is a cracking car, well engineered, drives extremely well, the cabin is 1st class and holds 82% of it's value after two years. It's the head choice but my heart wants another RR and I must ike the poor dealership service, poor reliability, expensive servicing and running costs.

I can't explain it, but the RR has a real sense of occasion. If it's good enough for our future King, then it's good enough for me! Current MY2020

LR want the car in for a few days to assess......ruins the look of the car on a sunny day.

I will revert back once I know more.
