What's it for?

So, even now, on my 5th FFRR I still don't really know.

The boot floor, left side as you look in there's a lift up flap which reveals, well not a lot. Not a usable space by any means. So why's it there? Other than it being easier to make the boot floor that way I can see no reason for it.

It’s a mounting place for the allan key (supplied in JLR kit) to remove the deployable side steps sir... Only official use i have ever seen by JLR... Thumbs Up

The handbook says it's a trinket box. I suppose you could hide your phone or your wallet in it when taking part in activities or something. But it's just a odd bit of space they decided to convert into storage rather than waste it.
