Same question over and over

Just a thorght would it be a good idea to make a kind of check list so when people come on here for the first time (like i did) there is no need to ask the same questions ove and over again. I know how it really gets on some peoples nerves, promting posts like "use the search function" witch does not help anyone really !!!

I was thinking of a buying check list things like

Check suspension works fully and hold its hight when switched off etc !

Just a throght !!!!!

Also can we add a spell checker, i cant spell for Censored !!!!!

You can install your own spell checker, can I suggest http://www.iespell.com/

And are you referring to something like a "Problems & Fixes" page like here:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic470.html

See the problem is, as much as you think people saying "Use Search" doesn't help, actually, if you'd just used search, or even just your eyes you would have seen that as it's a sticky at the top of the page!

If people cant see the sticky, then what else can the site do? No we are destined to have one post wonders who are too busy to search, and get the answer to their question and then never reply back with a thanks, or more helpfully, yes that worked, or no it turned out to be "blah"

Nice one on the spell checker !

The idea was for more of a guide as the problem and fixes page only helps when you know what is not normal. If you know you have a problem its great but if you think it is normal then its of no help. Just an idea

Dan this is exactly what i am saying

This helps if you KNOW YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, this is NOT a BUYERS GUIDE or a CHECK LIST. It could very ealy be made into one.

As an example i read on here today about a guy whos suspension drops by itself when he turnes the car off. I would of thorght this normal, but apearently its not.

I think people have forgoton how much there is to these cars and how much stuff there is to check, but hey it is only an idea !

I see where you're coming from, but then I also think people should do their own homework rather than have the information spoon fed to them.

If I'm about to spend a large sum of money on a car I make sure I have read the owners manual, to ensure the car does the things it is supposed to do. I would also go through the list provided to get an overview of the common things to look out for.

Personally before I bought my L322 I had already read the workshop manual, but agree that this may be a step too far for some. I just like to know how/why things work.

However - why don't you put a buying checklist together for the benefit of new users to ignore Smile

I cant put one together as i am one of the people that would find it of use !!!!

Also if someone comes on here befor they have got a car are they not trying to do there homework ? After all who better to ask than a current owner ?!!!!

I dont think it is SPOON feeding at all, id be more than happy to help someone on a topic i new about, in fact id take pleasure in it and would not see it as "why should i help, or spoon feeding"

David, I'm not suggesting that you need spoon feeding as most of your posts although are inquisitive, are also constructive.

I would suggest that you are in the ideal position to compile a checklist. You are new to the fold and the buying experience is still fresh for you and you know the questions you want answers to.

In the absence of an existing checklist, your attempt at one may be better than nothing? If it's started then we can all contribute...

Usually the same checklist that aplies to other cars, serves also for the RR.

Basically, make sure everything works and you're good.
Also, check the service history. These cars are usually good or crap, so if it has had problems, expect many more, if not, you should be fine.

You can also check the phone pairing to see if it has had the module replaced so that it can read the phonebook.
Suspension, do a cycle of up and down, first down then full up. If it pings (suspension raising slowly message) at the first cycle, the compressor is already tired.

David, here are a few things I would look for on a used FFRR if I were a first time buyer of the brand - some things you may not have thought of include:-

Check the aircon blows icy cold - open all the vents, set the rear temperature adjuster and switch on the rear fan also set the thumbwheel in the middle of the dash below the emergency indicators button, to 3 blue bars and let it run for 10 minutes - it should be really cold ac out of all the vents and there should be no smells from it. If there is be a pool of condensate under the car afterwards, that is normal. Repairs to the air con/ climate control system are expensive and the FFRR has the coldest AC in the world according to Clarkson!

Check the BiXenon headlights - if either lamp is a pinkish colour then it is getting near the end of it's life.

Ask the vendor if the TV (if fitted) has been modified in anyway - TV on the move is possible with a hack, and also if the TV module has been changed for a hybrid digital and isn't still analogue.

These cars can tow 3500kgs, if it has tow gear fitted check the gearbox isn't shot (it shouldn't be but if it has pulled excessive weights a lot, it can be damaged, all FFRR have a gearbox oil cooler as standard). Also if there is an armature with 2" square receiver fitted ask for the tow hook (they are quite expensive to buy again!)

Important - make sure you get the service record book before you part with any money, shouldn't be a problem if buying an LR Approved used FFRR, but from anybody else make sure you get it first or walk away

Start the engine, put the gear selector to N and press the Low Ratio button and check the transfer from High to Low box is working - don't rely on the indicator light though, engage drive and try to move the car in low ratio - any strange noises then it hasn't been used in a long time or it's already broken!

Biggest OEM wheels supplied by Land Rover are 20", anything else then the car isn't designed to use them but some people fit up to 24" wheels. If new alloys then ask the owner to remove one so you can check they are genuine LR wheels and not cheap copies/fakes - genuine wheels all have the LR oval cast inside the rim and a part number. Also if new tyres are fitted then check they are the correct weight loading and speed rating (LR recommended tyre sizes and pressures are on a sticker in the drivers door frame and the owners manual)

Open any door stand on the sill or open the lower boot section and stand on it and check the roof for damage.............. they get scratched there if the owner has forgotten to lower the suspension in lower decked multi-storey car-parks - these are high cars!

Put the suspension to offroad height, get down on the ground and look under the back and front of the car for offroading damage, some do go offroad you know, more than you would think! 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
