and ah Censored . spoke to soon with wiring. rhf indicator is not bright. you can barely see it flash. but flash it does and at the correct speed. whats up with that. fiited the same resistor as the lhf. rhf unit is from the usa with aussie xenon packs and lhf is all aussie stock. ???? unexpected issue. resistor to strong??? bad pack??? some usa-aussie compatibility issue?? no idea yet.

looks heaps better now. very happy. still have to fit front bar and cut the inner guard lining to stop it hitting.

i think i read your thread on that thermostat, i thought it was a good idea until i read a post by someone else saying BMW engineers designed it to run at 100 temp and they know what their doing.

BMW didn't design the engine to run at that temp, all the earlier BMW's that ran that engine ran at a much lower temp, when they stuck it in the FF, time had moved on and emissions had been tightened up, the cheap fix was to make it run that hot to pass part throttle emissions, it's not good for the engine and certainly not good for all the plastic and electrics under the bonnet, mine feels much more relaxed at a cooler temp as well.....

BTW, yours is starting to look very nice, hope you don't hit too many more snags.... Pete

yes i have haerd that increasing the running temps can reduce emissions. makes sense. i think i will make that change now. illget the parts. ive put off doing the radiator and now im glad i have. thanks for following up.

found my problem. i put the resistor across the side light and the indicator positive. Laughing Laughing Embarassed
working tired and getting sloppy was the cause.

the old front end is a good looking front end, and i like it, but my lights were falling out, parts were painted and old and bar cracked. so this was a good idea to sort it out. before and half way there shots.

taillights tonight.

i have to do something with these redbourne wheels, the Censored awful new pressure washer i have has striped some clear off, the Censored thing is useless apart from the snow foam attachment, my garden hose rocks, anyway im thinking / leaning toward getting them painted same as the car / dark metalic grey or restored back to stock silver. undecided.

well i need help i think. i fixed the resistor and no joy. i removed the resistor and it still wasnt bright like it should be and flashed fast. i plugged it in the known good left side headlight plug and no change. i swapped all the power packs and no change.

so its the headlight itself. heres a video.

i put my aussie packs on this usa headlight, so maybe i created a unique problem. everything but the indicator works fine.

which pack, if one, controls the indicator? are there any servicable components? or do i need a usa power pack? ive no idea and dont want to just throw money at it. trying to be thrifty causes me these problems all the time

might post in the main electrics thread. help pleaze.

still have the stupid indicator issue. just goign to leave it for a while till a cheap headlight comes up on ebay. i tried though, i pulled my old headlight apart, took the wiring out and removed the circuit board, put that one in the oven to test loosening the glue on the lens, melted in into a blob. corrected the temp and put the faulty one in, but couldnt get it apart, so gave up, dont want to stuff it. there are no other cheap ones around right now.

put the tail lights in, satin blacked the frame, tow hook, muffler and tips. black wow on all the plastic and the metal window surrounds, man that stuff is good.

still waiting on the front bumper should be back this week. bought 3 alpine amps, nice 12' Alpine sub some more JL Audio speakers for fitting this weekend, thinking about a small second battery in the boot like this one, but will keep an eye out for voltage drop to see if its needed.

http://www.rangerovers.net/rrupgrades/dualbattery.html

getting low on funds allocated for this project now. lucky im nearly done with the real expensive stuff and the interior tidy is just mostly labour. the rest can go on a wish list for another time.

pic of the rear. doesnt look very blue does it.

shes come a long way.

thanks mate. it sux, very self conscience making right turns at the moment and people cant see my indicator well. three lefts is better! i like your ride, looks tuff. if it wasnt in the city 24/7 id copy yours.

pick up my front bar tomorrow, drop it straight to the painters. heres some photos of what they have done.

accidentally went overboard on audio, bought 1x 12 alpine sub and matched alpine 2ch amp for it, focal four channel amp for the front doors which are focal 6.5" and boston 3" and centre speaker, 2x JBL 4" yeah im going to try and mount two in there, i reckon there is enough room, and an second alpine amp to drive the rear doors polk 6.5" leaving two channels, which im thinking about putting either a smaller sub or some 6x9 somewhere.

easy stuff, but the scaryiest part is removing the dash top. removing the end bits looks hard as Censored .

or, have the focal amp drive the 4x 6.5 speakers, and the alpine 4ch drive the bostons and the jbl centres. which is probably a better idea actually.

yes its probably mismatched but i just learnt today that matching is a good idea for a better sound. i bought based on how much discount i got as usual, ill i want is improvement over stock, getting out off factory lexus audio into this standard RR junk was unbearable. (standard was with amp but no sub i think poverty pack plus is the right term no bass, awful unclear mids, with loud and obnoxiusly louder highs)

i was right to fear removing the dash top. Removing was easy apart frpm some vent tabs just snapping off Rolling Eyes , but it wont sit right now only on the passenger side front.

AND Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry i have water in the passenger side front (and its not from crying over the dash fitment) and lessor extend in the rear. carpet is not wet, but the underlay and floor is. found while routing the front power wire.

amp rack made and bolted in, made a nice rack and stuffed the carpeting of it, which worked out well, not doing it to the highest quality really sped things up. lucky its hidden. Laughing nothing is connected yet due to the water.

but yeah what a disapointment that water was. the backup online is great though, found its probably sunroof drains and had a quick look to locate them looks easy, clearing tonight then suppose ill prop up the underlay and leave it open overnight with a heater fan on it.

and because its winter here, and it gets to hot around 3pm to continue working outside, suppose its a good change from hotter than surface of the sun from 7am in summer.

hopefully thats it, if not a/c lines, if not, drains at the windscreen wipers. plan clearing them all anyway. are there any other drains? not happy.

well i think the cause is the lh sunroof drain. its not blocked though. ran some water through and passed through easy but observed fresh droplets had formed on the earth point lower left kick panel

will wait until mrs is home tomorrow and have her watch it to confirm. its been wet for a while. surfuce rust in a portion. dry carpet hid it i guess. got some towels under to soak up some, seats out this weekend to be able to lift the carpet up more and put fans on it.

how do i fix this. Shocked its a big fix right? Rolling Eyes

are these drains one piece?

wish id found it before i spent a cent elsewhere. would have spent money here instead. everything on hold until this is fixed. leaks are unacceptable. ill edit this post with pics in 24 hours. helpful tips and commiserations welcome.

there are lots of posts on p38 and discos suggesting fixes and checks for this are these relevant to ours?

edit 1.

after reading rave it must be blocked or obstructed near the top. not much else can go wrong . i think ill give it a second look / clean from the top then connect the dyson to the bottom to suck any crud out. from there ill silicon around the drain hole. then test. good to have a plan.

also the clicking i mentioned in my first couple of posts, its related to this water.

edit 2. next day. dont want to bump the thread, might be boring, not many comments. Very Happy

l&r front drains are completely clear. it clears water at a good rate. however if i tip enough water on the drain hole while sunroof is open enough to overload the size of hole, i get leaks coming down the a pillar first noticable at the dash side and also drips from the left bottom corner of the glovebox. but obviously right? sunroofs open. i doubt a closed sunroof would allow that quantity of water in. so ill close the sunroof and see what happens, could be i have the leakiest sunroof in the world. and we have had some rain over the past 2 months, like torrential non stop for weeks, so... its possible.

honestly sunroofs are more problems than they are worth, i hardly ever even use them.

http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/9-range-r...-roof.html

3rd post down by grasshopper, what this post says about the a pillar is interesting. ill take that off and check tonight as well.

edit 3. that above post is not applicable.

i cannot get this thing to wet itself with the roof closed. after watering it enough to grow another one. the sunroof seals aee bad but the drains handle it, the windscreen doesnt leak. the door seals dont allow water in. the window seals are Censored , but the drains work. the a\c drain is clear and flowing but its busy. too busy???

so unless someone says my condensor shouldnt create that much water. ill dry the carpet out, replace sunroof seal when i do the hoodlining and keep an eye on it when it rains. its possible that really heavy rain which my garden hose cant replicate overwhelms the drains.

definitley localised to the left hand half of the footwell, front and rear mainly front. which is exactly where the overflow ends up if the drains cant take it away quick enough.

if your reading this. concur?

edit 4.

found how to set the sunroof! so i reset the sunroof. probably hasnt ever been reset since new. maybe that will seal better, still going to get a new seal soon though.

found posts saying leaks can occur at front cowl to, allowing water in throught the HVAC, so ill be checking the filter to see if its wet when i get home from work, will be a expert in water leaks soon.

dried out the front, have yet to remove the seat and dry out the rear passenger, but its already paying off! now the front is dry its no longer throwing airbag faults! i like my truck again.

edit 5. theres no need to bump this when there are no photos.

front bar is finally at the painters. and its raining and no wet carpet. i havnt run the a/c in a week. im scared to.

over the weekend i took out the seats, cleaned the carpet and had a good look around. headlining is the next to fix. will be parchment alcantara depending on cost.

The quality of some of these plastics after only 10 years is awful. the plastic along the top sides of the centre console has gone all rubbery and disgusting, the sides of both seats are rubbery and gross sticky, ive taken them off and binned them. to gross to remain. the black is peeling from the window switches and from the sill plates, for what was a high end auto its sad.

However! everything blue silver & black plastic is going to be recovered in carbon fibre, except the dashm anything wood or parchment.

heres a good diy i found.

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-second-...fiber.html

but ill be going with a real black rather than grey like his. but maybe a blue weaved carbon on the currently blue trims with black on everything silver and black, i reckon that might look really good, or really bad. either way, ive bought some carbon and some epoxy online and the mrs better hide everything she doesnt want covered, because ill be practicing on all the household items.

well i got the bar on, the gaps at the side are awful. ive left it as it is for now, because i ran out of time and its my daily driver apart from my scooter which has a flat. its going to take some hours to get it right. i think my problem is i reused the old guards and the welding of two front bars into one. if i had thought more about this i should have kept where it met at the sides on the 2004 front bar, and had only the very top grafted on. ideally this really should be done with new gaurds and a new bar to have a easy time.

still want to fit side tubes, but havnt had anyone give me a quote for under $1000 yet. and thats will giving them the old steps so they can measure those, cut those brackets off and weld them to an alloy tube. easy job for a fabricator i wouldve thought.

Took off the 22s and put on some 18s with near new rubber off a disco i picked up for next to nothing and went to beautiful fraser island on the weekend. . rides so much better with 18s, im not putting the 22s back on.

mrs wanted a drive and she crashed her into a salt water creek outflow at 60km/h, when we landed, nose first it smashed the undertray to bits, damaged the front bar, and salt water went everywhere, and i think i have an exhaust leak, even got salt water in the intake!!, she stalled and threw an engine light and when tried to restart it wouldnt idle BUT i cleared the codes twice with the iid tool, she farted out the steam in a huge cloud and ran perfect. so lucky to not bend a valve. i would have been stuck without the iidtool. i consider that tool just paid for itself over the weekend.

nice part of the world.

ran perfectly all day in high temperatures, even in the tough parts didnt miss a beat. awesome car.

A great thread and thanks for the updates.

Fraser is a fantastic place, been there a few times with D2's and a D3, but must be great in the RR.

Cheers, Jerry
