4.2SC Leaks you can't cure?

Car has spent second week with another dealership of the same group. Phone call today from DP to tell me that they think an engine oil leak(s) is coming from behind the timing chain cover, below the 'ladder frame', around some 'spacer'/ false sump between the engine components and the actual sump?

They say the problem is that the components need to be stripped, exposed and 'the mating faces' married again which will probably require some sealant during any rebuild, although the mating faces shouldn't actually need it in theory... but 'because the car has done between 80 & 90k miles' etc... However, their concern is, these engine components might be 'porous'. Therefore, they can't guarantee the leaks won't still be present when they put it all back together again after a lot more time lapsed due to what is 'another engine out job'... and so they're 'gauging my thoughts' ... And by the way, we also query whether the drive shaft is leaking but can't be sure as this 'misting' on that and surrounding components could be a result of the primary oil leak 'but we wouldn't know that until after' trying tackle the primary leak(s).

Confused?

"Gauging your thoughts"? Sounds like a euphemism for "are you willing to stump up for this work if we go ahead"? Rolling Eyes Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

The issue is not them courting me to pay for repairs Alan. It seems more that they are declaring uncertainty as to whether or not they can repair it such that any leaks will stop.

LR UK claims that "your Approved vehicle from Land Rover... gives you absolute peace of mind..."

LR UK also claims of their Technicians, "it takes a certain type of person to deliver the levels of professionalism, skill, and attention to detail that we expect... we always work to the most exacting standards, which is why our Retailers should only ever undertake the work."
