Varta H15 020 AGM Battery

Well, I decided to swap out the battery today. This is the third one in the car's history, the last one, a 90ah Land Rover LR018609, was put in nearly four and a half years ago.

It still works as I keep it on a Ctek quite a lot but I occasionally had starting issues whenever I did too many things in a short space of time. I was always worried about things like watching the TV without the engine on or indeed just sitting on the tailgate with the courtesy light on.

Anyway, the final straw was when I was helping my daughter move half a mile, so there were a couple of starts with not much distance to charge it in between and then half a dozen locking/unlocking of the car between hauling her stuff down from one flat and then up to of her new one. On the final one, it wouldn't start and I was lucky that someone in a white van, who happened to be nearby, kindly gave it a jump.

I've gone for a 110ah AGM. I decided I was going for as much bang and stop/start power as I could get. I followed the wiki (thanks, Stan) and was surprised how easy I managed to get it in by ensuring everything was out of the way (including any padding) and by slightly tilting it towards the back of the car at the base. snug fit but very manageable.

So, let's see if I can now use/do things without worry. Whistle MY 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE

I'm surprised a diesel only had a 90ah one in anyway....

Bigger is better.... Thumbs Up

Should be sorted for a while... Pete

Have you checked you alternator voltages. If you haven't changed it it could be starting to go. The Varta is pretty much the same battery as the bosch. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes, I have and it's fine.

Generally, after a run, the car was fine and I could leave it a few days and it would start - it just wouldn't if I did anything in between and so I was scared to go in and out or use the fbh without it being on the ctek, which I couldn't always use. MY 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE

that good, mine is perfect on the Bosch and can run the FBH but so long as it has a 15 min run after. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Glad to hear it Smile

As I say, I just lost faith in being able to do anything in it when the engine wasn't running or not connected to the ctek. I got the AGM version for £168 so was happy to see whether it is worth the difference to the standard one. MY 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE

Good Afternoon,

Read your piece with interest, I was just about to buy a Varta H15 battery for my 2008 RR Vogue SE as performance from the installed Varta G3 is marginal and I'm not quite sure of the battery's performance but was put off buying the larger battery being told "it might not fit", obviously from your piece that's not the case. You mentioned that you followed "Stan's" advice, you couldn't repeat it could you as I've now got the battery ready to install.

Many Thanks
Walter.

Hi Walter,

It's in the wiki as:

BATTERY DIS-CONNECTION PROCEDURE and
BATTERY FITTING PROCEDURE

Just make sure you move everything out of the way as best you can and it should be fine. It was fairly straightforward and wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be in the end.

Good Luck,

Good Evening Jack,

Many Thanks for the speedy reply, very much appreciated. Weight lifting practice this evening in preparation for replacing the battery in the morning. Twisted Evil

Kind Regards,

Ned.

Ah, Good Afternoon All and specifically Sodalis and Mr Tee, well I have tried and tried to fit the Varta H15 battery but the problem is the "automatic battery disconnect" which is fitted on the positive terminal and which sits down the side of the battery which means that I simply do not seem to have enough length to fit the battery, of course in all other respects there is no problem in fitting it. Could you let me know if you had this problem or not and if so how you got around it.

Regards,

A Perspiring Walter! Rolling with laughter

PS It's a 2008 RR Vogue SE.
