Personally, having been through a nightmare car I would only ever run a FFRR of that age and specification with a genuine LR warranty. There's so much which can go wrong and for me personally, the aftermarket warranties just don't cut the mustard. I've found this with the Wife's XF and a steering column issue which they managed to wriggle out of leaving me £1500 lighter.

Bear in mind these things can throw you a £5k bill without a second thought, my 2010 AB has, more than once. Now I know that such issues are rare so a lot depends on your appetite for risk but after the car I've just had I will only buy approved LR used cars now. Yes you pay more up front but the 2 year warranty comes in at £1400 to the main dealers, that alone should tell you something. The peace of mind is that you can go straight back to the main dealer and it's their problem with your backup being LR Customer Services.

Also, way too many of the 3 month warranties have a claim limit of £500. If you go this route check the small print carefully. The 3 month thing is the legal minimum that traders have to give unless it's a bona fide trade sale to another trader, or if it's sold through the auctions. There is no stipulation in law that the warranty has to be appropriate for the vehicle and 500 quid barely covers anything on a FFRR.

Hmmm, if you can afford the 12 plate then obviously go for that one sir... Good points above, if your very unlucky you can have bills around £10k for an engine change Shocked

your standard average joe 3 month warranty is usually just mechanicals and not electrical faults. most faults on complex cars are usually classed as electrical , they will even write down a gearbox fault to electrical

3 month warrantys are a waste of time

The £16000 price difference would buy a fully inclusive warranty for 2 years and still have over £14000 change.... Previously..

Contraband is right - 16 grand is a lot of money. Buys a lot of other nice things including warranty.

You obviously can afford it or wouldn't even be considering the 12 plate car - so buy that one or you will only regret not stumping up the extra - justify the difference by keeping it slightly longer - then the cost will work out more in its favour 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

.....or buy a circa 60 plate from a main dealer and still get the 2 years manufacturer warranty.

I'm not sure about the wisdom of spending the thick end of £50k on an L322 Whistle

Would have to agreed with CEEGEE on this one. I found plenty of good example 61's for the right money from MD's with warranty.

Imagine what you could do with the money you save.
