new to RR

hi, Had my RR for 3 months now, apart from some cosmetic jobs and routine service stuff ive done its turning out to be a fault free good car. Only done 80k miles .

wanted one for 20 years just got around to it!

new discs and pads and repainted calipers and disc hubs
washer jets were knackered
rear washer motor leaked
replaced side bars with raptor steps
new battery
new original mats
hard wired in my ipod
rear wheel inner arches showing surface rust , rubbed down and repainted
flushed out brake fluids
flushed and changed coolant

gearbox is fine but all the stories of failure worry the crap out of me, will consider a gearbox oil change in the future but will seek more advice on this before so. Really need to find a local Indy who can service it for me

The ipod wiring was an extension lead from the rear 3.5mm jack, hidden away under the consule. Got a split ipod lead off ebay which has the apple connector at one end and the 3.5 and the usb charger plug at the other. Got a 5v usb charger off eaby , wired it into the supply in the centre storage unit. All you can see is the apple ipod connector that comes up just under the left heater control. Got a magnetic silver ball that sticks to the facia and the ipod sticks to that , all very neat and descreet

will put some pics on tomoz

ive heard so many mixed stories on the GB oil change, some saying that they had problems after they did it. LR service schedule says 10 years 150k

The gearbox issues are on the td6 not the tdv8.... Just to put your mind at ease. Not that they never fail on a tdv8, but I can't remember reading one on here.

Welcome and enjoy the experience.

Congrats, if you don't know it's had a gearbox service then I'd recommend one out of peace of mind. I've had my TDV8 for about a year now and on one particular road here I could always get it to hunt for a gear if I stuck to a certain speed.

Finally got around to flushing it (well garage flushing it) a few weeks ago and its a revelation how smooth it's become again. Wasn't very much in the grand scheme of things either. Ed

Unnecessary quote removed

I was in the same boat a few months back and was thinking along the lines if it ain't broke don't fix it. But after reading through so many good reviews after the transmission service on here I decided to go for it. Don't listen to the Land rover guide lines they are a joke. And if you look at the actual ZF service interval ( ZF is the transmission manufacturer ) you are just about the right millage to have it done I'm sure it's 70k miles not towing and 50k miles towing. But what I will say is its extremely Important you make sure who ever is done the job knows exactly what they are doing.

I would also suggest both front and rear diff oil and transfer box oil change. Again very important to make sure the correct oil and correct amount are used Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

I don't believe so. Similar with the A pillar and the trim below the front bumper with the towing eye cover along it.

Looks like Range Rover Sport wheels and tyres as well..... FFRR has 255 tyres not 275..... Don't come unstuck with insurance.

Not wanting to be like an anorak, but fore warned and all that......

I quite fancy a tdv8.......

so have the pillars and bumper part been painted aftermarket then.

As for the wheels I was led to believe they are the 20 inch stormer alloy which was an upgrade , they are fitted with 255 tyres

Hi.

The trim would have been painted aftermarket I believe. One of the rr signatures is the floating roof, which needs the pillars to be black. Same with the bit below the rear bumper with the reflectors in.

It's all personal taste, and a previous owner would have fancied looking a bit different from the norm

That style of wheel was never fitted to the L322. They were to the sport. The reason the tyres tend to be incorrect is that the wheels on the sport are 9J ie 9 inches wide from rim edge to rim edge. Those for the full fat are 8.5J in width. 255 tyres have to stretch a bit too far across the 9J wheel so 275 are fitted on the sport.

What wheel is the spare ? May have had 4 new alloys with the spare still being original factory.

The standard ff tyre size is 255/50/20 on the 20 inch wheels. Plenty on here have rr sport wheels on but I believe they don't have 255 tyres...... If that makes any sense ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

this is the spare, pretty nasty aint it?

you are correct about the tyre sizes, it is a 9inch rim, so im guessing prev owner changed wheels but retained tyres.

so my choice is

1. get some originals ( yuk) use these tyres and sell the stormers

2 get the correct tyres for these .

having the wrong tyres on a wheel is worse than having the wrong wheel I guess.

what are insurance companies like with wheel upgrades?

I'd get some original wheels if it were me, and reuse the tyres if there is plenty of tread left. At least you know the alloys will take the weight of the ff when you whack a pot hole.

If you put 275s on, which will be good for those alloys, there will be insurance implications I'm sure, as the tyre wheel combo was not offered from the factory on the ff.

Quite a few on here have different stuff for off reading, not sure how their insurance changes.

I found that if you fit wheels that were available and are correct for the car, they don't tend to bother changing premium.

Your spare is a 19 inch wheel...... Just for the record.

The nearest correct wheel for the ff is the one from the ff supercharged - looks wise.....

Your spare pictured is a 19" which were the standard fair for the car... If looking for some period upgrade wheels then google the SC wheels of the era, which look the closest IMHO to the Stormers you currently have fitted...

The pillars and under bumpers have definitely been painted since it left the factory...

I have below some pics of a 2006 in Zambezi we recently sold with SC wheels fitted... Hope it helps Thumbs Up
