Will i be able to fit a new battery ok?. Looks a tight squeeze between bonnet and battery home! Thanks in advance.

just done one and yes it is a tight squeeze but easily diy...make sure you put the bonnet in service mode and have a stool handy to stand on.. ... - .- -.

Tip: Its easier to do with 2 people.

On top of the gas struts there is a small metal retaining clip that hold the head onto the ball joint. Use a small screw driver to remove it on both sides. Then whilst supporting the bonnet, pop the gas strut off of the bonnet and push upward until the hood is vertical. Now look at the support arms for the bonnet and locate the flat clip that looks like a spare bit of metal. Rotate this and clip it over the pin. This locks the bonnet in the upright position (service mode).

To reset to normal reverse the procedure. The metal clips that secure the gas struts in place are a little fiddly to replace but if you look closely there is a groove to slide them down on top of the head. open bonnet, unclip the two bonnet supports at the bottom, these can sometimes be done by hand...lift the bonnet to vertical and on each side there is a sliding bit of metal that clips onto the support mechanism to keep the bonnet upright...

Thanks guys,after reading this Topic i pluked up courage and fitted my new Battery this morning.

Everything was totally as described,i was by myself but was easy to put bonnet in service mode. After turning of ignition i waited ten minutes Then removed the neg terminal. Waited a further 20 mins then got stuck into the pyrotechnic poss. Easy,new battery on,bonnet resorted,start car and toun steerin full left then full right.Job done. Only memory loss was on existing trip. no problem, so thank you guys,i am indebted.

You may find your sunroof has lost its "home position" next time you use it. Hold the close direction for 15 seconds to re-initialise it.

God how I love my basic SE....no sunroof so one item less to worry about
