The naturally aspirated 5.0 has the 3.0 D4/RRS 2-piston calipers. |

When Land Rover brought out the last major upgrade to the Range Rover with the TFT screen the 3.6 TDV8 ( and apparently the 5L N/A ) were " down graded"to the sliding calliper brakes but the new SC 5L was given the six pot Brembo's ,then a year later when he 4.4 TDV8 came out with the 8 speed "box" Land Rover could announce a brake upgrade across the range . Bad call but good marketing . 2008 MY Supercharged

My Dad's 2010 3.6 TDV8 VSE has the rubbish brakes. They are SO different in use to the Brembo ones I am used to on mine. Scary Discovery 4 HSE

MY12 still built up to about the end of June 2012 with some sold here until at least the end of 2012. Hence the OP's observations are not unexpected. |

The 4.4 TDV8 was available in a Sept 2010 built MY11 eg SALLMAMH3BA336273 yet my supplied VIN above is for an August 2011 built MY12 na 5.0 without Brembos, as observed from pictures that are supposed to be of the same vehicle as the VIN. Hence I can't see how "Brembos across the range" can coincide with the release of the 4.4 TDV8 unless in practice the UK did not get the na 5.0. |

I wonder how the 2010 3.6's braking compares with the D4's use of the same caliper. I note that the pads have different part numbers and do not know if they use the same size disk - certainly not the same part numbers. However with not that much difference in vehicle weights I expected pretty much the same result. I was considering fitting the lesser calipers if I needed to fit Compomotive 18" rims for better off-road tyres, having been happy with the 2.7 brakes I fitted to the D4 to allow 17" rims to be used. |

Crispy, thanks for opening the discussion on this topic. Looking at upgrading from a 3.6TDV8 to a later model 322 (SWMBO has a distinct preference for the "boxy shaped range rovers". Towing our caravan, which weighs in at about 3.1T fully laden, I am super impressed by the TDV8, so while e heart says SC, the mind says TDV8. So... Looking at late model 322 4.4's. Towing a decent weight van, looking to make sure the tug has adequate stopping power! Pi wasn't aware the TDV8 had lost the brembo a at some point, so keeping a watchful eye on this one. |
