remapping insurance cost

hi folks, contemplating having a remap on my 3.0l diesel but am unsure if the extra insurance costs make it uneconomical. anyone know roughly how much they will sting me for it, i pay about £250 at the moment. Cool

Mine wasn't much more - but it varies by company

Just go onto one of the price comparison sites & do quotes with & without Thumbs Up

do you have to tell the insurance company..remaps are not easily traceable and you could classify it as a tune up.. ... - .- -.

Our insurance company won't allow any power upgrades and you know what they will do come pay out time! Rolling Eyes

Never worth taking the risk imho Whistle If the worst happened DBDD or such like insurance companies will throw endless budgets at wriggling out of multi million pound payouts! Rolling Eyes

My policy doesn't allow performance remaps, but it does allow fuel economy remaps Wink

My invoice States "Fuel Eco Remap"

And I have a dyno printout to prove it has less power than standard

Whistle Rolling with laughter

My thoughts exactly - it would take seconds with an OBD tool to figure out that she software had been updated and they would investigate from there. Simply not worth it - especially if you can find another company who will insure it for a small premium.

the insurance company wouldnt go to those lengths unless they had a suspicion that it had been done and unless you told them , how would they know.. ... - .- -.

For a big claim, there's a good chance they would.

Similarly, the Police might if there was a big smash and you were at fault.

Of course, they might not....... It all depends on your appetite for risk I suppose

Totally agree, it might have been done by a previous owner. I think mine was done as it seems very responsive but i have no idea if it has been uprated from stock. Tom

On a similar theme, regarding payouts, I was at a dismantler yard in the midlands, 'equicar4x4' I think. they were selling an engine,(diesel) from a l322 that had been dismantled, ie head was off, sump off, and 'all bits' were in a crate. the car had been burnt out, as was evident on the engine etc. but the insurance company wanted to know if the owner might have knackered the engine, and didn't want to pay for a new one, so he might have burnt it, to get the insurance money. it was fine inside, and so it was thence for sale. a days labour, could have saved them 10,000 quid!
I saw an episode of BBC Watchdog, where a young driver had crashed her first car, and the company didn't pay out, as the wheels where aftermarket, and the tyres were a slightly different size. it was a technicality, that they used, to their advantage. the girl didn't know one wheel from another!
You have to think how you will fair up in court, not to an expert, but to a magistrate etc, that only knows, -the law!

It COULD be proved that someones gastly pimped car colour, might attract the eye of thieves more than standard. A bit like leaving a laptop bag on a seat.
insurance companies are not there to help us, -they feed from us.

no one has seemed to have mentioned the fact that it is possible to put the car back to standard at any point.

***Please dont think i condone not informing your insurance company***

I always recommend my customers to do so as the car is now different from that of how it was sold.

Insurance never went up a penny Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
