2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Time to come clean.....

In the last 4-6 weeks I had made my mind up to sell the Range Rover and go to a 'Germanic' alternative.

I spent a good while reading other forums (quite shocked how bad they are compared to 'ours' and that actually had a factor in choice!!). So my plan was to head to VW and a Touareg TDI. Nice car, test drive went well - some very good 11/12/13 plate cars out there in my budget. So at £27k for a 3L Altitude 12 plate I was near a deal...but oh Sir you tow a caravan??? Why yes I do...oh that'll mean you need the 850w cooling fan upgrade, it's an additional £1,800. Shocked Ok, step away; over the road to Audi and their Q5 (not a fan of the bulky yet tiny inside Q7) and this was a pleaser for the wife, she liked the smooth 3L and the overall car. I actually liked the 2L S-Line and with a decent remap it'd be at 210BHP - very respectable. But, it's still £26k for a small 2L SUV and that's not a whole lot of value for me....

I briefly looked at a host of Jap / Korean offerings....ventured via an A8 Quattro and found myself here, right now....on my drive washing my Range Rover, whilst talking to it Whistle and realising that every now and then it's good to go and see what's out there....because actually, most of it still isn't as good as my 2007 TDV8 Thumbs Up

Last week I had a chat with a good pal who is in the trade. He talked of getting a 5L SC and the fact that in his eyes the £10k TDV8 premium you pay can buy a lot of fuel !

Emotional days chaps.....have a good easter Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Have you had a look at the e70 x5 ? Thats the only 4x4 i would consider going from my ff the 40d are incredible cars very quick and very good mpg for a 4x4. I must say I'm not much of a fan when it comes to VAG ( VW Audi group ) had a bad experience with a Golf GTI Mk 5 I loved the car at the start but couldn't live with the constant issues it would give ( abs, electrical, used oil, rust etc etc, people can't believe it when i tell them the most unreliable car i owned was a VW Golf Rolling with laughter a real pity as i loved the way the car looked and drove not sure if the new ones are any better but i personally wouldn't got back to VAG BMW are far superior i feel and the ones i have owned have never put a foot wrong Thumbs Up Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

And therein lies one of the main issues with owning a Range Rover.

Once you've had one, nothing else seems as good, despite all their foibles and gremlins. You just know that people who know you and know you for driving around in a RR, when they see you in a Q7,Q5, X5,X3, XC90, Jap/Korean etc will just assume you've fallen on hard times and you're strapped for cash! Rolling with laughter

I shoot with a guy who has a Porsche Cayman diesel. It's a lovely car, the new ones look very nice and the interior is lovely, very smooth, frugal, quick etc. He said to me in 36000km it has never once had a fault. That's great I suppose but in a way, boring! Discovery 4 HSE

Takes us back to the reason, IMHO, that we love them, they need constant care and attention so we grow to love them....

Mine at the moment looks like a heart transplant patient, gearbox out and getting stripped, just had a delivery of other stuff it needs whilst I'm at it... new front and rear flexis, new bake pipes, two new rear disc backplates, one rear driveshaft, rebuilt front calipers and new pads, new cooler lines and oil rad.... Big Cry

But I still love it and miss driving it.... Very Happy Pete

Wouldn't you consider a Discovery - the XS and HSE are a nice place to be and (of course) hugely capable Smile
