Drivers door lock FUBAR

Hi all

Had an issue where the external door cable snapped on the L322. Today striped it down and replaced but after building it all back up the key fob won't lock or unlock the drivers door.
All other doors work ok. Total (window) closure works on all windows and the lock works manually (key and pushing the button)

From my experience with P38's it normally means the locking mech is FUBAR? Am I right? Also I remember mine locked in "dead lock" and I had to smash the lock to open it... Could this still go the same? Or am I safe using the key as it's already u/s?
(From the P38 era I also remember the passengers will go next... Then the EAS... Then the BECM etc!!) Natural progression?!?! Sad

Is there anyway I can prove it is the lock before I spend what I guess is ££££ to buy one? Is it a pita to change?

Sod's law it happens just before I fly out to Vegas Weds Sad
I better bloody win now!!!

Cheers

Cheers Stan!

Will pop pad off and have another look. I did have a wiggle of the connector where it went into the lock. Is there another connection in the door off hand?
Does seem strange that it went just as I replace the cable.
Hopefully I'm just clumsier than what I thought! Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

You haven't lost the earth connection to the door lock or blown Fuse 11 by any chance?

"I think" all I touched (unplugged) was the wires that go onto the door card, windows speakers etc. I did disconnect battery and unbolt the air bag, but I think all went back as planned.

Does fuse 11 just do the drivers door? Everything else is working (and the drivers door works on key) just not on key fob or centre dash button. Total closure is working on all windows.

Is gonna be about an hour before I can go take door card off to try find something.

Cheers guys Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

Fuse 11 does drivers door module. If you can operate the drivers door window from the door switch the fuse is ok.
As well as the earth connection at the module plug there is also one in the door opening which serves the door lock only.
Be worth checking tro see if you have an earth at the lock connector when you take off the card.
Hopefully taking the door card off and replacing it will cure the fault. Thumbs Up

The side door latches are sealed units that incorporate separate actuators for locking & superlocking the doors.
Each door latch also incorporates a "Hall effect sensor" that operates as an ajar switch to provide a door status signal for the CJB.
The driver's door latch incorporates two additional "Hall effect sensors" to provide signals of lock and & Turning the top of the emergency key blade rearwards sends a lock signal & turning the top of the emergency key blade forwards sends an unlock signal to it.
The driver's & front passenger door latches communicate with the CJB via their respective door modules & the medium
speed CAN (controller area network) bus link.
The rear door latches are connected to the front door modules via a LIN (local interconnect network) bus connection.
On all doors the door ajar "Hall sensors" are connected directly to the CJB.
Each of the door latches is mechanically connected to a locking button in the top of the door trim panel.
Pressing the locking button down when the door is closed disengages the exterior handle from the door latch to lock the door.
Pulling on the interior handle extends the locking button from the door trim again and re-engages the exterior handle with the door latch, to unlock the door.
A second pull on the interior door handle opens the door latch.
On all except the driver's door, the doors can be slam locked after pressing the button down while the door is open.
For lockout protection, the driver's door locking button cannot be pressed down when the driver door is open.

hope this helps

Hi Boydonegood

Will the Drivers door:

Will not open from outside (but opens from the Inside ??
or
Will not open from the Inside but opens from the outside ??
or
Will not lock all together ??
or
Does the internal central locking switch lock it ??

Can you also tell me IS THE DOOR LATCH electrical connector (on this problem door) - Voltage greater than 10 Volts ? - if it is you need a new door latch - as the latch unit is faulty

Boydonegood, I also replaced my external door handle cable and found my door would not lock from the fob, but worked fine mechanically

Description of my symptoms here - they sound very similar to yours: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic26713.html

I took it all apart again, made sure the 'big' connector was fully home and it all worked: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic25649.html

Finally, if you've not already seen it, Powerful UK have done a decent YouTube video:

Hope you get it fixed Thumbs Up 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Guys

Thank you so much for all the advice!! I couldn't get it stripped back down again due to the rain. But will be looking at it again 1st thing in morning.

The door opens from the inside and outside handle but does not lock or unlock from the fob or the internal (centre dash) button

Windows mirrors etc all work. The other doors lock and unlock on key fob. The drivers door does lock by using the key in the lock.

Will check all cables again tomorow. Hopefully I've upset a connector.

Have had a strip down and unplugged everything and re plugged in. Kinda settled on it being the actual lock mechanism now (think I changed all 4 on the p38 over time) as still inop.

Fly out to Vegas tomorow so am going to have to leave it till I return

Thanks so much for everyone's help

No buddy!
I really appreciate all the help everyone's given me as always!

It's only through checking the bits you have all advised to that I've isolated (I think) the door lock. Just hoping I'm going to be in the position to offer advice to new members too soon! I think the advice and time people take to reply and offer suggestions is what makes this site as awesome as it is, and a great community to be part of.

Thanks again as always

Hope you get it fixedc- IIRC I had to put some 'padding' in the locking mechanisum for the big connector to ensure it was seated properly to resolve (it feels like it's home, but isn't really hence no electrics to the door lock actuator mechanisum) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Cheers

Do you mean the big plug that goes into the bottom of the lock itself or the black plug that goes into the door card? Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!
