Bought second hand, so I was much more interested in the car than the colour. I'm pleased that I like it though.

I was in a LR dealership and mentioned that if buying a new one I would choose 'Havana.' I was then told I would be 'Brave' choosing that as it would affect residuals so I imagine there is a percentage of owners (and I bet it's higher than you think) who are are swayed into buying cars in a different colour than their initial choice because of dealer comments. Regards

^ Yes indeed I am surprised at the current score.

If your favourite colour on a car was "Unusual"would you really buy it knowing that it would make it twice as hard to resell as well as maybe having to sell for a little less (at trade in).?

I guess it might have to be a bit of a compromise if it was a REALLY unusual colour, unless of course money was no object.

I'm thinking Pink OF and the likes Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

but you are 'tuned' into thinking about the resale of your purchases Gary because of your profession , whereas the normal bloke in the street buys cos he likes.. ... - .- -.

The funny thing is that I really used to like Grey / Dark Silver cars until every other car you see is that colour. Now I want Vibrant 70's colours.... Browns in particular...

I read an article about car colour - (Hang in there, it was interesting, I'll try and find it on Google) and how manufacturers colour options reflected the economy, mood and optimism of the nation in general. For instance post war most cars were Black or whatever colour they could get hold of (Bronze Green in our case) and that as things started to change for the better in the late 60's / early 70's this was reflected by the colours of the time. Green, Orange, Yellow etc etc..

Maybe that's why we're all 50 shades of grey now..... Regards
Mark

United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Luxor

I leased cars for a time and I remember the lease company on one occasion telling me I could have any colour I wanted for the same lease cost, so I picked an unusual blue colour that was not popular at the time. Everyone I worked with said it was a lovely colour and it soon became popular - it was a vauxhall colour and it didn't stay around for long.
The lease company maintained that colour was not important in residual value.
A few years ago I bought a Lexus and when choosing the colour the dealer basically talked me out of haveing white and he said it would not re-sell when it come to changing it! How popular is white now!?

Certain classic cars - like red Ferrari's andn yellow Lotus's and White Cosworth Fords and in particular Guards red 911's have to be those colours to sell.

Really like black cars but after having a black Lexus & a black Mercedes plumped for silver for R/R, simply because black looks brilliant when washed & waxed but shows every mark, had to wash Merc two or three times a week, R/R in Zermatt Silver just looks clean all the time Laughing

Wouldn't have another black FF as a gift! What a PITA to A, keep clean & B, keep scratch/mark free...

I buy my cars with re-sale very much in mind...

I should think 80% of FF's we see here are Black Shocked Weather that is a regional thing or a national average? Black ones do seam to be the preferred option... Whistle
