Sat Nav Oddness

I've got the white text mk 4 DVD sat nav unit in my boot.

I know someone with an updated map dvd, so tried it in my unit - wouldn't read it, but it works fine in his car. It seems to not like DVDs even though it ways "DVD" on the unit!

Has anyone experienced this before? Do I need a "system software" update to be able to read a DVD - my sat nav disk is a CD... Tym

If it sticks, force it. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway.

I mean it's a CD not a DVD - capacity 700mb.

Tried burning the data I have to a DVD and it wouldn't read it. Put it on a CD and it was fine... Tym

It's not the denso disk. It's from a 2002 navtec system

4-1/00 is already the latest software.

The DVD drives can be picky about quality of discs and speed of burn. Was your friends disc a dual layer DVD? 2013 FFRR Vogue SE

Not sure - I'll have to borrow it again... does it have to be D/L?

I'm going to try an experiment... Going to take my original RR Sat Nav disk and copy it to three disks:
1 - CD
2 - Single Layer DVD
3 - Dual Layer DVD

Will report back later... Tym

The latest maps (2015) will only fit on a dual layer unless they've been stripped down. I think one of the last to fit on a single layer is 2011.

What year is your friends disc? 2013 FFRR Vogue SE

OK - update and more oddness

I copied the files from my original 2002 disk to another CD, a 4.7GB DVD and an 8.5GB DVD

The CD gave me a message of "incorrect CD/DVD" - i presume this is because I copied the files rather than doing a disk copy.

NEITHER of the DVDs worked the message remained the same on the screen saying no disk inserted. ALSO... the DVD drive in the boot made NO whirring noises AT ALL when the DVDs were inserted;not a murmur. Tym
