urgent help needed - stuck in park

not having a very good time with the vehicle at the moment

following on from this thread :-

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic30551.html

I received the news from my local indy that indeed the abs module is goosed and a new one is about £1500 so looking at similar failures and following this thread:-

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic18413.html

I decided to remove the module and have a looksee inside for any obvious bad joints etc

- nothing obvious although some of the wire bridges were very close to one another ,anyway after putting everything back together the car when starting up is stuck in park. That is the gear selector is in park and will not move!

anyone know what to check for ? how will I resolve ?

getting hacked off with it now tbh

Try a battery reset first. Link is in the Wiki.

There are issues with the linkage under the gesr selector , but that's more to do with the key getting stuck in the ignition barrel GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

hi Paul - tried that and still the same - also tried a 'hard reset' of the battery leads - no joy still stuck in park.

Fuses?

also could removal of the ABS modulator disturbed wires as that may be related to the shift lever lock out solenoid disengaging? Can you hear disengagement when you depress the brake pedal? GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

checked fuse 5 and 33 - both associated with transmission - both okay

don't imagine any wires were disturbed when unplugging module - simple latch in and out.

unsure about noise re disengagement - never have noticed a noise before , there certainly isn't a noise at the minute

just me swearing at the b'''''''d!!

You should be able to feel a quiet thunk when you press the brake (through your hand if it's on the gear lever). It makes a small pin pop out allowing the gear leaver to move and you can hear/ feel it in the lever. It's there so you can't put it in gear without your foot on the brake. You can see the pin if you pull the gear leaver surround up. My Previous RR's!

pulled off the gear gaiter and observed the solenoid , the pin doesn't release when pushing brake pedal and trying to change from park , the pin does detract once the car is switched off , so it is going in and out .

Going to leave the battery disconnected overnight in the hope the cars ecu's will go to sleep and wake up and work properly in the morning - if that doesn't work I may have to try and remove the solenoid to get mobile again.

the good thing is I managed to find an abs module same part number as mine for £75 off ebay - lets hope this resolves my abs /hdc /etc issues.

Just a thought, I take it your brake lights are working? If it isn't sensing the brake pedal press? My Previous RR's!

^^

thanks for the heads up on that - it is on my thought list as being the culprit as well as the abs module being another possible , both are on order and should arrive Monday , brake lights do work , but apparently the brake switch sensor can give a partial breakdown and give the stuck in park problem as well as abs. traction control problems - although when it was in for diagnostics I'd have thought they would have picked up on this switch issue.

thanks again

fitted both the parts and now can select gears okay , so the car is drivable , but my hdc , abs ,loss of traction control and suspension lowering remains Sad

Have you had a full reset of the faults done, the lights may be old faults due to the ABS module going bang. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

+1..^^

I had to do a reset with my diagnostic tool on my Discovery when I played with the ABS modulator, as the HDC/ ABS and TC faults still appeared after repairing the fault. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

yes - reset all faults - bongs straight back in on starting the engine up

my indy has told me the abs module was definitely the problem after spending 2 hours diagnostics and loom checking Rolling Eyes
(makes me wonder whether they've just billed me 2 hours for a simple plug in for 10 mins on the machine)

all the same dtc faults are still there - going around in circles here but at least now mobile with new abs contoller and brake switch - I have been in contact with GAP re the abs controller and have provided Patrick with all the DTC to see if anything is apparent to him as being the most likely issue.

off to work for a couple of weeks tomorrow so the saga will continue on my return
