A detailing section would be a good idea to raise awareness of whats actually out there. Most other forums im on have one and I think its a great idea

I don't mind mud, snow or water.

The problem is when you have to drive down narrow lanes with branches.

I really love snow though, it's like everywhere becomes a massive off road course! I span mine 3 times coming down a hill with DSC off, YeeHaw! 

It's a very small number, I think owners are frightened to try them offroad though, and you don't need to take it to stupid places (I have a Defender for that!) - 50% of offroading is walking the route you are going to drive - if you can't walk it, then the car won't get there either. I wouldn't class any of what i did today as Offroading - it was all on hard surfaces, no over hanging trees or bushes to scratch the car and no deep water or mud (that is the idea of a Green Road Run - non damaging and cars running road biased tyres should be able to cope with it without getting stuck) 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I like the Garden and would spend all day driving around it

I have a DA and have used it on numerous cars, no problem what so ever and leaves fantastic finish, just very time consuming to complete a complete car. 2+ days most times. I have not had a chance to use it on the Range Rover yet.

I have exactly the same colour/spec as yours by the looks of it. I really like your wheels, what are they and what tyres have you got fitted?

I don't know what size those are, but having run an RRS with those wheels for 3 years, I have never had wheels that scuffed so easily as that design - probably because the RRS tyres are very low profile. As regards other posts on detailing, I'm one of those clean freaks as well. The Megs products are really good and amongst my own detailing gear. Also I find Menzerna, Gloss-It and Blackfire are products I really get on well with.

Rotary use is not as scary as a lot of people would have you believe though. All it needs is common sense, and, if you're of a very nervous disposition, a scrap door or something from a scrapyard to practice on. Rotary is way quicker than DA and also doesn't give you the nasty tingly feeling in your hands. Yes it CAN burn through lacquer if you really try but I've only ever done it once on a scrap panel and that was deliberate, mainly to see how much it would take.

The thing with rotary is to use a softer pad and less aggressive polish when starting out. Once you have a feel for the machine (probably a couple of panels) then you can work up through the grades step by step.

To give a rough idea, a DA would take me circa 4 hours to do a FFRR bonnet whereas I can get the same finish using the Makita in about half that.

One place the rotary truly comes into its own is on glass. Removing wiper marks and light scratches takes a lot of welly and about 10LBS of pressure on a rotary. A DA simply wouldn't do it.

For the chaps who left questions on mud etc from off roading (yes I do offroad my FFRR) the answer is a foam attachment for the pressure washer. Before washing the car, give it a good coat of wash foam and let it dwell for 10 minutes. This softens all the dirt so washing off with the PW after removes 98% of it BEFORE you touch the paintwork.

Ive seen the menzerna and blackfire products but i still have a pretty small collection (can be seen in the back of the range rover in one of the pics below). Im still trying to build up my kit so il hopefully get some more stuff soon

A lot of people have said rotarys are not as scary as they seem. My cousin is a detailer up in Aberdeen so he said i could go up and have a go with both before i make my decision, which should come in handy!

There seems to be a few members on here also on DW! Thats some good work there on the jag and the lotus (theres no way i would be able to fit in the exige though )! I plan to get the alloys cleaned and sealed at some point in the coming weeks

Snow foam is another thing i've wanted to try for ages it looks so much fun!

The Range Rover has done a fair few miles this week but is beading beautifully

Yeah, that's some top work there, particularly doing it all by hand. You deffo won't be able to hold a beer steady after that

Seriously, get a rotary and some soft pads. You'll never look back. Silverline make a Makita clone for about 60 quid. Menz make some nice pads and also get a bottle of Gloss-It pad lubricant. About a tenner I think but mellows out the polishing process. If you're still not sure I'll cheerfully give you a lesson in how to use it all safely.

Do you use Polished Bliss at all? Bet your rellie does being in Aberdeen cos that's where they are. Rich Cooper is the bloke who owns it and he's a real diamond.

Polished bliss is where my cousin works! Im going to be heading up there in a few weeks to be shown how its done i think Thanks for the offer though! Your right the beer is a little shakey but it tastes bloody good

I bought a silverline and a few pads but i didn't have enough confidence to use it, so i just kept it for a couple of months then sold it on! Really wish id kept it now though!
