My wife sent her tax return in last December (December 2013 for January 2014), as she does not earn enough to pay tax its straightforward. She sent it registered post and has the receipt from the Post Office.
Months later the Tax office (in Swansea) wrote saying that as they had not received her tax return she now owed them £100, to which she wrote back with a copy of the PO receipt. Next thing she receives another letter, this time from Glasgow saying the same thing, so she again writes back to them with a copy of the letter to Swansea (or is it Cardiff?).
Anyway, next thing is she receives another letter to say a part of the (non received) tax return has been incorrectly filled out, together with a copy of the (non received) tax return with my wifes signature on it, to be corrected and returned - the penalty now is up to around £600.
She writes back to say if they have sent her a copy that she sent to them in December, how can they still say that she has not sent the tax return to them - no reply to that, but another latter now saying that because she failed to sent the return in on time her penalty is now around the £1200 mark - and this for someone who pays no tax!

es about like dvla I HATE them there utter scumbags! There fault entirely they said even with receipt it could be another letter unbelievable!
