I had three before my DBS. Two very early cars and then an 07.

Mine were reliable. The engine is not particularly stressed but can suffer if run low on oil.

Lovely things

Me..... My brother has had 2 of them. My opinion is that they are lovely to look at, but I wouldn't have one.
We are so lucky with our great driving roads around here to be ale to go out and rag cars on quite traffic free runs.
The DB9 is not suitable as a point to point fun car. The engine is heavy at the front and you can feel it on corners wanting to understeer. To be fair, it's a GT car. It's great for long straight motorway runs. The power is amazing, it'll spin the wheels at 70+.. The rear seats are a joke. Zero leg room, infact my sister had to sit sideways when we were on a run.
The satnav cover never sat closed correctly on one of them which I thought was poor.
The sound is amazing. Anyway, it depends what you want it for....
I thought the Maserati cambiocorsa was a more suited car for our local roads.. That was fast and had a better balance.
None of them could hold a candle to the 458.. Best car I have ever driven.

I'd have to disagree with some of those points.

I came out of a Ferrari 360 Modena which is a real hooligan's car and so the first time I took the DB9 on a spirited run, I too was disappointed. However, I began to realise that I was driving it incorrectly. You cannot drive a DB9 like a go-kart. If you try, you will be disappointed.

Rather, you need to be more subtle. Set the car for the corner - smooth inputs on entry and exit - and then the car flys. Yes, you are aware of the front end weight but you can use it. I was as fast over my favourite road as I ever had been in the 360 (which is lighter and accelerates harder). It is worth doing the performance driving course (I did this later) to really understand the capabilities of the car. I remember taking it on a track day and the instructor nearly fainted as I took one corner (he was shouting "brake" at me) - the car sailed round without any fuss and the instructor was mightily impressed with the vehicle.

It is not a surprise to me that Aston won their class at Le Mans using a derivative of the DB9.

However, if you enjoy hustling a car into corners using lots of front-end bite, it isn't the car for you (the 360 will lap that treatment up). I'd also argue that there are few roads that one can do that any more in the south of the UK.

It is also a great GT - compared to the 360 where I'd emerge frazzled, you can drive across continents and emerge fresh from the DB9.

As to rear seats, just ignore them as though they don't exist. I regard mine as a two seater. Useful luggage space really.

The sat-nav cover surely could have been adjusted? It does remind me of a negative - the Sat Nav is dire - Atari graphics in a PS4 age. Not all cars have it and don't bother if the car doesn't. Early ones couldn't do postcodes (but they can be updated to allow full postcode input).

As for the Maserati - I hear horror stories (you hear bad stories on Astons too but far fewer that the complaints for Masers). Not as beautiful either. They do make a lovely sound and have proper rear seats and a better boot (if those are important).

On the 458, I'm not going to disagree. I've not had one but the 360 was astonishingly good. Unbelievably good to drive.

My wife hated the 360. It got noticed everywhere we went (not something I liked either). People would either give us the thumbs up or shake coffee beans at us (in the Aston, it rarely provokes a reaction). It was too loud - she couldn't hear what I was saying (to be fair, the engine is behind your ear). It was too fast (not something I ever complained about but I did wonder how I ever managed to hang on to my licence). Many was the time that I would wonder why the traffic was going so slowly, clack down three gears, pull out, redline it twice and then look down at the speedo and realise that perhaps I was a going a tad too quickly. The car always wanted to go faster still.

In short, it is a different car to the 458. One if for driving Mach 1 with your hair on fire (and is addictive when you do). The other is a Jekyll and Hyde car that can be a relaxed GT and can storm over back roads.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

A couple of years ago I went to Stratstone Aston Martin in Wilmslow to look at a couple of cars. The first I went to look at was the DB9 as it had the glorious Aston V12 up front. When I met the salesman he looked at me and said "hmm, you're taller then I thought, I'm not sure you'll fit in the DB9". He was right... At 6' 4" my head was hard up on the headlining.

Thankfully though the Aston dream wasn't shattered... The V8 Vantage, although a smaller car has more headroom in it. The seat sits lower in the car then it does in the DB9. I test drove a 4.7 V8 Vantage with the Speedshift gearbox on it. It was a cracking car but for me it would have to be the manual that I bought.

Still haven't done anything about buying one right enough!

I'm 6'3" and in my ex '07 V8 Vantage I had plenty of room. The car was great fun and every time I drove it there was a sense of occasion.

Every time it went in for a service, it had to have work carried out under warranty (a must have in my opinion).

Being an older car it had the 4.3 V8 which seemed a bit under powered, the 4.7 was an improvement but the V12 is the one to have.

My advice is to drive the DB9 and Vanatge, they are completely different and make your mind up.

Last note: if I were to have a DB9, I'd pay the extra and get a DBS. Current MY2020
