I agree with the short runs theory its not good for any cars let alone diesels.

My old M3 used to have an oils temp gauge in the dash so you could see when it was "ok" to give it the beans, and i have remembered this and give cars plenty of time to warm through before revving them over 2500rpm, which to be honest doenst happen much with the ff.

With the OP's milage and budget in mind should the recommendation not be an AJV8, even less to worry about! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

my mileage is low as i use a company van in the week ,not to not doing long distance ,my present and past diesels have always been given a blast down the motorway at-least once a month to clear dpf's etc, that sc does look nice but would want lower miles on a v8 petrol for the money

The wife is loving her 3.6 and if when we passed the garage that day it was any of the other models that one would ahve been sitting in the drive now .....

Like members have said ...they all have their niggles and problems ,but at the end of the day they are all RR and some have more problems than others and the models that seem to show more issues would probably have sold 10 fold more and not all the issues are had by the same RR owners ....

We all know the tdv8 can suffer from the aforementioned turbo munching issues, and it's making me wonder what I actually buy next - it would have been a no brainer....

So what's the preventative fix then ? What do you do when it arrives on your drive and you are all excited that you have your next car..... That should alleviate the issue ? Do we know ?

I've read links about no issues then it all goes wrong, even after people that know what they are doing have changed an egr.... I think Craig touched on this....

I also understand there is a seperate oil drain for one of the turbos that can get missed.

I also read it could be down to too much heat in the engine bay, which is why the RRS suffers more, as there is less space for the heat to dissipate ?

The specialist garage I use - the owner runs one. He loves it. Says they have only ever had 2 cars in with turbo munch issues. Says to just buy one.... And they do work on many rr's

I know it's a bit off topic, but would be relevant to any tdv8 purchase...

I'd love one, but the seats are less comfortable and the later cars seem more prone to rust issues..... I feel an RS4 or an RS6 could be next. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

⬆️ To avoid any Turbo problems - this has come first hand and direct from a good contact in LR,

don't remap it, don't chip it, avoid S/H vehicles that have been, service on time and avoid excessive full throttle undue revving on start up and allow to idle before shut down to allow the turbos to slow down if the engine has been working hard / using very high revs.

All common sense and nothing new there. I am also aware of several turbo and engine failures attributable to dodgy maps. I even know of a LR employee who ditched his personally owned Sport TDV8 which had been mapped as he knew failure was inevitable. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Looking for my next one now got a td6 at the moment and hopefully will have found the right 3.6 tdv8 over the next few weeks , I have thought about this for ages even considered a late model td6 as the v8 turbo issue had me wondering but a mate at work got one and that decided it , it will be a tdv8 , just another question for opinions what s the consensus on newer car with higher mileage or older car with lower mileage and what do people consider as to high a mileage .

Just for clarity's sake...

This allows for the Turbo/s to Cool down when been worked NOT slow down... So, one must allow time for this Thumbs Up

I reckon 10-12k per year average.

In terms of age and mileage question, it really depends on condition. This has been said before, high mileage is not necessarily a thing to be worried about, so long as the rest of the car feels right and the to has been serviced correctly. Very low mileage could indicate a car which has not seen much use, they aren't keen on sitting around. Also depends on the years you are comparing, if you are looking at a low milage 58 vs a higher mileage 59 with the facelift, then the latter may be the way to go. But then there are the brakes, the latter models did away with the brembos in favour of the trw calipers.

Mileage alone would not make my mind up. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

There is an 09my we service every year. He does 2k a year and all in the winter! The car does/has never been cleaned properly and to that end, the car has covered around 15k now and is ROTTEN!!!

Unused for 10 months a year, then dunked into a salty bath for 8 weeks before being parked back in their garage till next winter!

Low milage cars are not always a good buy!

Some good points there.

I was thinking more of a fix for the turbo issues, not working around it.

What actually fails / snaps / warps / seizes / is too big / not big enough etc ?

Or something like "fit this aftermarket hybrid turbo and all will be well......"

If you see what I mean.

I understand the later 4.4 does not have these issues ?

It is difficult is it not? When I was looking to.replace my wife's car, originally thought about a nice TD6, but then started to read about all the gearbox issues, and 3k repair bills.....so I thought that add a bit more to the budget, and go for a TDV8, done some research, and started to hear about egr and turbo problems, 6k repair! To be fair, most were rrs related, so I bit the bullet and found a nice low mileage example.....now just waiting for the BANG!!
It seems whatever car/4x4 you go for, if you research enough, they all seem to have their problems, none of them a cheap fix.
As someone mentioned earlier, there are a lot of TDV8`s around, and I am pretty sure that not all of them have developed these faults (it would be interesting to know what percentage have) so at the end of the day you just have to hope that you are not one of the unlucky ones.

Just for clarity Craig, it's also to let them slow down, otherwise they are spinning at 100k rpm without an oil supply if the engine is switched straight off Thumbs Up 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
