22" wheel and tyre experiences?

Hi All,
Anyone running 22" wheel and tyre combo having particular issues or challenges with regard to pot holes? or is it just me?
5 years with 20" and not even a puncture or a wheel scrape.. 6 months with the 22's. 2 new wheels and 3 tyres!!
Can't all be my fault surely?

Also, how do you overcome the spare wheel issue? I found out last night that you cannot even use the space saver to get u home! Sad

I am looking to move down to the 21's off the new sport or even some 20's and keep the 22's safely tucked away..

Cheers

Nick

It is your fault, you shouldn't have put 22's on it.

i'd be interested to know if you've been running Pirellis on the 22s (285/355r22)?

I found them very soft in the sidewall which also meant that despite being a 35 profile there was a lot of tyre roll.

Sorry, didn't mean to be harsh. I just don't like this fashion for bigger and bigger wheels. You wonder where it will end - all wheel and a thin strip of rubber painted on instead of a tyre. Why not pick a wheel that is dynamically suitable rather than a fashion item?

NickH72 This sounds a bit of a potential worry. I was thinking of 22" s on my next motor later this year but your problems have made me sit up and take notice particularly your remark about not being able to use the space saver to get you home, could you please elaborate on this as I have not heard this before and it potentially puts the cat among the pigeons. Also are there any similar problems running 21" tyres? Agueroooooooooo. 93-20
I swear you will never see anything like this ever again....watch it..drink it in.

I didn't put them on!! Razz it came with them and some poor sod paid about £100k for the car new with them on!

Yes I found out the hard way the other night when the wheel collapsed, broke in half! will put up a picture and found that the space saver is designed to work with the 20" standard wheels and no one thought to rectify that on the "options" the diameter is outside the acceptable tolerances for the suspension, so would light up light an xmas tree and limp mode at best, apparently!
I think the 21's are within 2.5% which I hear is acceptable!?
Just shocked at how a car can be sold at a premium with this lack of thought.. unless I am missing something...

Seems like the best plan would be to pay £200 and specify a full size spare if ordering from new then. You would assume that a car costing so much would be supplied with a useable get you home wheel though. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

never have liked the 22'' Nick, to many problems because of the quality of our roads, potholes etc and as yours are after market ones that's even more reason not to fit them...

a few of our members are running the new 20'' l405 wheels and report that they are slightly more comfortable because of the 55 profile...

here's a few threads re fitting l405 wheels,

yes 22" olympus on a factory car! difficult to move away from them because it wont suit or match the car, hence why the sport 21"s might do the trick and keep the 22"s safe for resale

Had OF 22's on mine since 2007 and have never once had an issue!!!

Have to say they are much better now using 275/40/22 Conti's MUCH more forgiving than the 35's Thumbs Up
