I have got used to the speed of downward movement on the 5L Supercharged but this morning the gauge twice just went from 3/4 full to 1/4 full of its own accord with a corresponding drop in distance to empty of 230 miles to 89 miles.

Typically senders on that, you can check them yourself from the out of tank connector multi plug with an ohm meter to determine which is faulty, but I always replace both. |

Geoff, its a well known fault and there is a TSB about it sir... Recommended (by JLR) the dealer has your car removed the tank pump plug (internally) and solders the wiring together as the wiring plug goes wrong! Even fitting a new pump will not fix the fault long term sir... Fault is because "one pump" stops reading fuel level and a mean average is then taken so will always read 1/4 full |

Craig, I take it that I will have to pay for the work or is it warranty? Geoff |

Is this a DIY job, can the bridging be done externally?

And on how many occasions have the fix worked? I have done this 20+ times and its not failed to work yet! So, please don't be so quick to dismiss something as "GARBAGE" on an open public forum when clearly the TSB is there for a reason! and has clearly worked for me several times! |

Craig, I'm liking the possibility that I don't need to replace the senders, can it be done externally or will I have to get the tank out in which case it's probably best left to a dealer. Geoff |
