Getting absolutely jacked off with this car now (4th rangey we've owned)
What do you guys think is a good replacement for a full fat?
Needs to seat 5, have enough room for 2 dogs, and preferably 4 wheel drive.
Wife's car, but we use it as main transport, due to its size.
Unfortunately, I am.picking up a new van this week, that is costing 22k, so max.budget would be 20-25k
So...Audi Q7, X5, or Renault Picasso?

Merc GL420 ... Got one after selling the FF .... its like Dr who's Tardis massive inside .... goes like the clappers when floored , but others on here will give you plenty info on other cars ( along with comparing it to the ** )

Bought this nearly 2yrs ago, it was a one owner, fsh, by the supplying dealer, low mileage (63k)
But since then, and 10k later, I have had new rear rose joints, drive shaft, New rear callipers, and air suspension pump,battery ect ect.+ 2 x big services.
It is nursed like a baby, garaged, in general,very well cared for.
But I just cannot justify paying out large amounts of money to keep it on the road, meanwhile it is still depreciating at an alarming rate, so basically this is dead money spent, ie; not adding to the value of the car.
Don't get me wrong, we love driving it, but it's becoming a liability....not knowing what's going to go wrong next (read my engine fault post)
I am at the stage now, that I just want some reliable motoring.
Any suggestions?

Not sure what you should buy next SFM, but if you're RR has disappointed on running, reliability and maintenance costs, the Q7 might be a similar experience. Another big and heavy vehicle that is expensive to run, has it's own complexities and can cost a lot to put right if things go wrong. Really well made, nice car although not as spacious as the RR or it's bulk suggests.

The air suspension literally went bang on ours and cost £2,500 GBP to repair, as just one example. Windscreen's are very expensive too! A good warranty desirable.

Land cruiser amazon, they also hold there value well too, but like all big 4x4, bills will always come when you dont expect them. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Not sure any of the above are as good as a FF but possibly more reliable (maybe not the Porsche??)

I am with Joker - Merc GL is very nice 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I must add that the latest Cayenne is a VERY nice car and a good place to sit.

VW Touareg is a sensible and pragmatic choice and shares (I think) many underpinnings with the Cayenne

XC 90 has been around almost longer than I have, is about to be replaced, it has well documented problems with it sticking in 2WD and they depreciate like a stone falling from the sky.

Slightly left field thought - I have had a couple of Merc E Class estates over the years - okay, not 4WD, but huge and great for "swallowing" family and dogs - sensible running costs and depreciation is reasonable after its initial hit - you'd get a nice one in your budget and I think they are pretty "classy"

Almost bought a tourag before this one...... wish I had now.
Not quite the "presence" of the rangey, but I would have thought a bit more reliable, Just a bit boring inside.
As we are in rural France, with a lot of steep hills etc. We really need 4 wheel drive I think.
Will have to have a serious think about what to replace it with, although bloody thing seems ok again at the moment.

I'm a big VW fan - we always have one as the "family hack".

If you want to be seriously pragmatic the 4WD Passat Estate is a great car - well equipped and they have a really big useable boot

They have obviously just launched a new model, so the outgoing one has taken a hit on values - you could buy one 12 months old and go on a nice holiday with the change to help getting over the loss of the RR
