Took car to non MD for MOT yday as knew MD wouldn't manage to service the car, repair an oil leak and do the MOT all within 1 day.

1. MOT by trusted independent garage yday. Passed, sailed through and no advisories.

Got call today from MD telling me that as part of the annual service health check, they were informing me that the EPB needed stripping and cleaning as though there was some problem with it. But we religiously use the EPB before ever engaging P and , pointing up or down Everest, the EPB on this car will hold the weight of the car and release properly, no problems at all. Plus, last year, I paid the MD to do that very job in response to a similar telephone call and speech. Response was that they 'Advise, strip and clean up of EPB. Recommended on every service'.

** Is that correct?

2. Also, had an advisory from the MD today that the driver's side front bottom arm balljoint has 'play' and should be replaced.

** Would that not have been picked up during the MOT done at the Indy yday?

Sounds like a total load of Bull t to me.

1. Why does the EPB need to be stripped down every service?

2. When was the vehicle last at the MD for work to be done? So why give an advisory now on something that should have been pointed out at the time. The excessive play on ball joint would be an MOT fail,or at least an MOT Advisory, plus it would be evident as a 'knocking noise', clunk, etc.

I would challenge the MD, as it sounds like they're just trying a fast one.

There has been no clunk sound or knocking since I personally changed the front drop links a few months ago with Duckworths supplied LR parts.

Would/should have been picked up at MOT and the EPB is a crock sir!

Ditch the MD, they sound like a bunch of ..............well let's not go there!

Have a scout around, forum search even, but find an Indy local to you that's both good and trustworthy (Yes I know that sounds crazy, but it is possible!!).

But most of all, don't get paranoid over your FF, enjoy her, drive her, treat her right and she will reward you (even if she emptys your wallet). It's a RANGE ROVER and, despite it all, it's the ABSOLUTE BEST driving experience EVER!!

I trust implicitly the independent garage that did the MOT, that's why I took the car there.. And believe they gave the car a clean bill of health because... It deserved a clean bill of health.

I had a similar recent experience whereby the main dealer, during the health check that accompanied the annual service, noted that I had a "weeping" rear shock absorber. Which could be fixed for a mere £680.

The receptionist said not to worry right now but I would get a call in a months time from someone about it.

The month passed, along came the call offering another free health check, duty of care they said blah blah blah.

The health check is clearly used as a sales lead generator - this call came from a dedicated sales team hundreds of miles away.

The shocks can be bought for £114 each so next time its in the independent garage I'll get them to have a look. Current:

Same thing here - MD diagnosed failed bushes on the rear suspension and quoted £700+ to repair. MOT came round 2 weeks later, front offside balljoint needed replacing (confirmed by knocking starting about 4 days before MOT!). MD didn't pick that up which I found odd. Asked MOT station about rear suspension - all good and no problems!!!

Last MOT, nearside front balljoint, rear suspension all AOK. So basically yes, bit of a rip off tbh! Land Rover Addict

@ Kajagoog, TheMD *was* the second opinion. I liked the opinion I got 1 day beforehand from the independent MOT tester as the car sailed through his MOT with not one advisory.

@ Stan, you'd have to wait and watch the MOT to see the faults being diagnosed (as is your statutory right) in most places as I suspect they're that busy, few would take it back into the workshop to replicate the test for you?
