It makes me laugh how so many people are embarrassed or concerned to admit they use the cheaper fuel. Unlike turning left or turning right on a plane, having LPG is like going into a bar and ordering a Fosters or a Becks instead of paying way over the odds for a Peroni or the like, knowing that its only that expensive in this country and that after a few hours with your mates you can walk out knowing you haven't been ripped off.
Being self employed I have an accountant who helps me be tax efficient, it then makes no sense to go to a petrol station and be totally un tax efficient at the pump, paying for an over taxed fuel.
BTW I run a SL500 and a FFRR 4.2 on lpg. I have absolutely no loss in performance only a huge loss in costs and a huge grin knowing that my beauties are more cost effective, on fuel, than my wife's mini. Also a hell of a lot more comfortable!
My gripe though is the huge difference in price between stations. Unleaded is tagged to the oil price which has fallen sharply and thank god for the supermarkets, the price in any greedy station/foodstore that is within a mile of these has HAD to cut its price. 2 miles out and the lazy or stupid still fill up with a smile on their face at 4p a litre more. With LPG its different we have to rely on the garage owner having morals, doesn't happen near where I live in West Malling. Strood supermarket LPG 64.9p, 6 miles away and 1 mile from me 71.9p, almost £4 a tank difference, enough for the pint of Fosters I suppose!!

Agreed Swithins. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I even looked into it over here. However, the economics don't work here, and the skill level of the installers just isn't up to it. In the UK, definitely! From what I can tell, diesel type savings, petrol like performance, and environmentally better than both.

The attitude to LPG and my SL is far worse on the Merc site but I don't care. I drive the car the way its meant to be driven and actually use it to get to the station every morning for work. It pains me to see these beautiful cars and miracles of engineering either being driven like they contain a boot full of loose eggs as the owners try their best to bring the ave mpg into double figures or worse seeing them in driveways for weeks on end collecting dust.

My uncle has the V8 diesel FFRR and seeing his jaw fall out of place when I told him what mine returns compared to what he gets is always a joy. He's a recently retired banker so hates wasting money. Current:

Last time I used LPG it was nearer 80p a litre down here in Dorset

Filled up yesterday. £36.20p and covered 262 miles. You've gotta love LPG on a long run, especially at 53p a litre

I get about 245 miles out of 69 litres on a run from Surrey to Cornwall. Allways fill up in Podimore Somerset at 54p per litre. They also have a loyalty ticket that gets you up to 10p per litre off.
Cheap motoring for a big car. And no smelly old diesel engine lol
