The Phaeton based Bentleys thread

I guess some people like them. I don't.

1) They're heavily based on a volkswagen. I'm not a snob, but why pay through the nose for a different badge.

2) They have a longitudinal engine slung out ahead of the front axle. Not such a problem if it's a 4 cylinder engine like in an Audi A4, but how does it make sense when it's an iron blocked W12?

3) They're at the bling end of luxury cars.

4) They appeal to people who want to put their foot down and go fast in a straight line, so they have plenty of traction and torque, but no steering feel or balance - see point 2.

5) They weigh 2.5 tons. Even a Mercedes CL which is also based on a steel bodied saloon, weighs half a ton less than that.

I would like a go in one, and if I had one I would probably enjoy it, but I don't rate them.

Now, people wanting to discuss the merits of the L405 over the L322 please carry on.

Is it because I'm retired that the phrase "weekend car" means Jack to me?
